Castaway Gets Away

News and Notes

Racing was canceled at Aqueduct and Parx due to snow, so Capital Goods (Corinthian - T. K. O. Lady by Two Punch) and Holy Invader (colt; Invasor (ARG) - Mariisima (PAN) by Jed Forest) will have to wait for another day.

Just a reminder, the poll to determine the 5th Maiden Watch stallion for 2012 will open on Monday or Tuesday, and will run for a full week to give everyone a chance to vote and lobby for their choice.

Stakes Result

Inny Minnie (Hard Spun - Inny River by Seattle Slew) finished third in the Silverbulletday Stakes, just missing second by a nose, and Yvete Sangalo (Hard Spun - Ya Tarra (GB) by Unbridled) never really got in gear, finishing 5th (last). Believe You Can (Proud Citizen - El Fasto by El Prado (IRE)) led all the way for a 1 1/2 length win. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Silverbulletday here.

Castaway Gets Away

The track was wet fast, and Sea to Sky (Forestry - Blue Sky High by Unbridled), Malibu Affair (Malibu Moon - Dressed for Succes by Tricky Mister), Candy's Jewel (Candy Ride (ARG) - All Pleasure by All Gone), and Unmarked Bills (Posse - Kelli's Ransom by Red Ransom) were scratched. Holy Candy (Candy Ride (ARG) - Spooky Minister by Deputy Minister) was favored, and Castaway (Street Sense - Priceless Storm by Storm Cat) was almost 3-1. He looked ready for action. I liked Called to Serve (Afleet Alex - Andover Lady by Kris S.) a bit, and Fleet Eagle (Don't Get Mad - Crazy Sissy Jo by Silver Deputy) kept catching my eye. Castaway went to the front. He wasn't going too fast, but he had a comfortable lead. Fleet Eagle and Called to Serve were his nearest pursuers. Castaway spurted away a bit, stretching his lead out to better than 4 lengths. Then, Holy Candy began to roll. He made a dent in Castaway's lead, but Castaway had gotten the jump, and he cruised to a 2 1/4 length win. Watch the Replay.

Bound to Win

All nine ran on the fast track. Liberty Bound (Mr. Greeley - Hello Liberty by Forest Camp) was favored by a couple of ticks over experienced Nonno's Boy (Successful Appeal - Singin Up a Storm by Storm Cat). Oxford Street (Street Sense - Luv a Drama by Behrens) was 7-1. Sokitumi Samurai (First Samurai - Pleasant Laughter by Coronado's Quest) is a flashy thing, and I was liking Storm On the Loose (Afleet Alex - My Sweet Country by Bold Ruckus) in the paddock. Oxford Street made a good impression on the track, but he was stubborn at the load. He came out a bit flatfooted, but recovered and went for the lead along with Nonno's Boy. Liberty Bound came up to join Oxford Street and Nonno's Boy. Oxford Street began to retreat, as Liberty Bound surged to the lead. He went on to score a 4 1/4 length win. Z Vilna (Unbridled's Song - Resplendency by Tale of the Cat) and Rodgerson (Flower Alley - Maidstone by Aptitude) picked up second and third, Nonno's Boy tired to fourth, and Oxford Street finished 8th. Watch the Replay.

Exciting racing day, despite wasting time on two cancelled tracks, but at GS I did land on and single "Liberty Bound" and he ran lights out impressive debut, looks serious ...FG Larry Jones prevailed, his DP horses were rollin by everyone, didn't mention Mr. Bowling's win, but I read in other column he is out of Istan and "Irish Tower" mare...was asking bout that the other week, paid off..."Lucky Gold Coin" also lit up the tote board.....looking forward to poll in next week. For the 5th Maiden Watch Stallion it might be helpful to many to list the number of 2 yr olds each stalion will have in 2012. It does not make sense to vote for a stallion with only a few dozen foals when some of these stallions have 100+ 2 yr olds.

Don - I was having one of those days when my exacta horses were running 1-3. Maybe, I can lobby for that to be a real bet.

Sak Man - You can download the 2010 Thoroughbred Live Foal Report here: www.bloodhorse.com/.../2010-thoroughbred-live-foal-report-stallion-breeding-bred

This will tell you how many live foals stallions had in 2010, which will give you an idea of how many 2012 2yos that they have.

However, I would encourage people to vote for the stallion that they are most interested in, regardless of numbers. Quantity does not always mean quality, and if this was just about following stallions with the most offspring, we wouldn't have a vote.

I know Chris maybe this bet will become fact as ideas to stimulate the economy grow...but I have recently found that when wagering I do best, if funds are available if I key the horse I am very confident/hopeful in a race, I have been using that horse with others as much as possible, and key with DD/pick-3+, instead of just the WIN bet. Too many times I have my horse and my exotics don't cash because I didn't have, for example, one other horse...regardless it is nice to see the horse you select to do what you envision' hope for...I agree on the stallion/ vote for who U want to be in our stable reality show...I thought I heard today that Quality Road or some really top level horse just grounded a foal/ not sure of the correct terminology, but whoever this horse is/ I loved em...Don

I hope you got to see Zo Impressive. She really lived up to her name and pedigree. Looks like she'll be one to follow.

Hey, Bloodhorse Staff!  I already have dibs on the 1 - 3 Exacta!  Also, the 1 - 4 Exacta.

Seriously, when you find a track that gives us that bet, lemme know.  I'm hoping to retire before I'm 80 and this is one of my retirement plans.
