Mud No Match for Harriet

News and Notes

Last week, Curlin, Big Brown, Henrythenavigator, and Midnight Lute finished atop the poll to determine which stallions to follow in 2012. However, since the vote for the fifth stallion was so close, I have setup a new poll to determine the fifth stallion. Please vote for one stallion. This poll will remain open until January 31, 2012. Feel free to indicate in the comments your choice and why.

Mud no Match for Harriet

The track was muddy (sealed), but there were no scratched. Harriet (Hard Spun - Call Me Fleet by Afleet) opened at 2-1, and went down from there. She looked good in the prelims. I was liking  Elegant Heart (Lion Heart - Minkie by Red Ransom) a bit, and Cimbria (War Front - Brig by Two Punch) looked ready for action. The start was good. There was a battle for the lead between Cimbria, Wildcat Thunder (Forest Wildcat - Thunderdoll by Thunder Gulch), and Elegant Heat. Harriet had a good spot just off these three. Harriet moved closer, as Elegant Heart began to fade. Cimbria took a short lead, but she was no match for the closing Harriet, who flew by for a 4 length win. Cimbria was safe in second, with Ennie's Lament (Domestic Dispute - N Square by Notebook) moving well late to pickup third, and Elegant Heart held fourth. Note the seagulls at the beginning of the replay, who look like pterodactyls ready to pluck off a jockey. Watch the Replay.

English Rhythm (filly; English Channel - Golden Rhythm by Rhythm) dueled for the lead throughout much of race 4 at Turf Paradise, a Maiden Optional Claiming Race (Claiming Price $30,000) scheduled for the turf, but run at a mile on the dirt. But, she couldn't hold off Maggieredvanentune (Red Sky's - Maggie's Tune by Relauch a Tune), who pulled away for a 4 3/4 length win.

Billy O (colt; Corinthian - Zada Rae by Unbridled's Song) finished 5th in race 8 at Parx Racing, a 5.5 furlong Starter Allowance. The winner was Political Justice (Political Force - La Petite Justice by Lit de Justice)

Don from PA/DE

Circular Quay "CQ" is my selection ala Rod Serling..."Submitted for your approval" by the unpaid librarian horse advocate, Don, nominee "CQ" son of Thunder Gulch who also sired Point Given,Spain, Balance, $1.5M GradeI-III winner, defeating many other greats such as Street Sense, Scat Daddy, Pegasus Wind, Great Hunter, Stormello, Teuflesberg (who beat Hard Spun), Zanjero, Liquidity, Grasshopper, Brass Hat, Magna Graduate+++and in first five starts as 2yr old 3 wins/2 places, hope to believe that this champ is ready to rocknroll his successful genes on many racetracks this year, from starting gate, the lampost eighth poll up ahead to the finish line up a head as they don't look back with or without blinkers as they hopefully enter the winners circle so you can cash your tickets, in the Twilight Zone!

Give him a shot for us to watch,Don

TIZ WONDERFUL has my vote. An undefeated, multiple stakes winner at 2 with 100+ Beyers. He has good looking foals that have sold well. I believe Tiznow is going to be a sire-of-sires.

Brother Derek.  Just love his out of the box breeding.  Sort of like I love Tiznow's.  They had to Makr their own breeding.

Tiz Wonderful for me.

I came up with four finalists. Red Giant, Tizwonderful, Street Hero and Notional. People who buy Colts Appearently like Tizwonderful the best. However looking at thier Racing Records,ie. distances and, quality of races and then the conformation of each horse. It came down to Red Giant or Notional, with Notional wining me over with conformation.

Can some one explain to me why The Green Monkey is even on this list - much less getting any votes. He was a failure on the race track - was bred to a few not very good mares. He will be lucky to even get 1 or 2 winners.  Isn't this supposed to be a blog to follow potental good sires.

AnneM - The blog focuses on first-crop offspring of stallions which folks are interested in. The reason for their interest is a personal matter. I imagine people are curious to see if The Green Monkey produces anything to live up to his price tag.

I'm with AnnaM.  Who really cares about The Green Monkey?  Not a horse of any distinction except his purchase price.  Anyone remember Canadian Bound?

Nobiz Like Showbiz  could revive interest in the Ribot line.  Hes a beautiful horse with class on both turf and dirt.

Nobiz Like Shobiz is 5x4 to to the mare Swoon's Tune, who is from an exceptional family. His dam is by Storm Cat out of a Halo mare(= to Harlan) and his 2nd dam is Halo/Herbager(same as Devil's Bag/Glorious Song and Saint Ballado). At two he was 2nd in the Champagne and he won the Remsen. He has a chance to be something. I am interested in The Green Monkey too, but why waste the good efforts of our friend at The Blood Horse on such a wild card.
