Don from PA/DE

Circular Quay is still chomping at the bit yearning for the winners circle...has won over 1.5M $$$, at 2 G-1 winner of Hopeful over Scat Daddy, at 3 winner of Lousiana Derby over Zanjero, and at 4 won New Orleans H over GRASSHOPPER AND BRASS HAT, son of Thunder Gultch, his kids will be promising....with winning genes, ability and spirit.

Seriously, Putting The Green Monkey on this list is an excersize in futility. There will be a whole lot of empty space where there could be dialog about the offspring of stallion's like Ravens Pass, Brother Derek or Circular Quay. AS stated in previous blog, It is predictable that his horse is not going to have many foals, he is in Florida after all, and even less who make it to the track. There were no obscure stallions on last years maiden watch, let's not start now.

One thing I would like to say about The Green Monkey, I really like the double ups of Bold Ruler, In Reality and Dr Fager in his immediate pedigree (first five) If he passes those genes along, we could see some dynamic foals from this horse. I, however do not see that happening unless Coolmore is sending some spectacular mares down to the sunshine state.

On the other hand, you can bet your sweet patootie that some of the best mares in the world are being sent to Ravens Pass, given his Breeders Cup classic win and the fact that he belongs to Darley. Not to mention his being by Elusive Quality.

An up and coming stallion to watch is Exclusive Quality, currently standing at Journeyman Stud in Ocala Florida. Offspring running and winning both in Florida and Pennsylvania, Good luck EQ!

I have enjoyed this blog for a few years but if a horse as lacking in credentials as Green Monkey gets on the top 5 (and it looks like he will), I will look elsewhere for info on two year olds. Clearly it is either a joke or a misguided popularity contest. This horse will be nowhere on the top sire lists and I bet it will be hard pressed to come up with any starters for him at all. Ignoring the likes of Ravens Pass, Borther Derek or Circular Quay is just too sad for me.

Ready's Image: His dad is doing wonderful things. Let's see if he turns out to be a sire of sires too.

Student Council, an old fashioned horse who was best at 4 and older. Millionaire by Kingmambo. Different type than Big Brown et al.

There were other choices of the same kind but I didn't pick the excellent Seeking the Dia or Heatseeker because their progeny are harder to follow and their races harder to evaluate. Lewis Michael - too bad could only pick one.

Green Monkey? Not an interesting pedigree and a disappointing rather than a distinguished example of it.

Brigitte, For the moment I will agree The Green Monkey is not a shining example of his genetic gene pool. However, I would like to know what it takes to be an interesting pedigree in your mind.

I too do not want to see The Green Monkey take up valuable space in the Maiden Watch blog. Performance not withstanding, he is by a very nice son of Storm Cat in Forestry, out of an Unbridled mare who is a half sister to Graded stakes winner's Magicalmysterycat and Burmilla. Not to mention the inbreeding to Man o' War through War Relic on the dam side.

Let me revist the Forestry side of the pedigree. You really need not go further then his dam. Shared Interest, she's a grade one winner and producer of 1999 Breeders Cup Juvenile fillies winner Cash Run. Cash Run (owned by John Magnier-Coolmore) also won the Davona Dale and the Bonnie Miss. She is the dam of the highly regarded, Irish based, Galileo colt, Move your Vision. A winner at first asking. As far as Forestry himself goes, he is the sire of 2011 Preakness winner and Derby runner up Shackleford. His son Discreet Cat has 2 FIRST CROP colts on the Derby trail for 2012 in Out of Bounds and Discreet Dancer.

I see nothing disparaging in The Green Monkey's pedigree. It's the concept of putting a MSW loser on the Maiden watch that bothers me.

Oh did I happen to mention Forestry's broodmare sire won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness ?
