The Original Kitten Spins Clear

All eight ran on the Polytrack. Original Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Single Goer by Easy Goer) was favored, Spun Clear (Hard Spun - Diaphanous by Unbridled) was 3-1. Original Kitten was showing some spunk in the paddock. Debuting Debonair Dancer (Suave - Dance of Sunshine by Sunshine Forever) made a favorable first impression. Spun Clear looked good to go on the track. Trans Continental (E Dubai - Plucky Broad by Holy Bull) reared before the load, and Spun Clear was a little reluctant to enter the gate. Henrietta's Prayer (Giacomo - Gainsboroughs Gal by Labeeb (GB)) was off slowly. Trans Continental went for the lead, but she had plenty of company. Among those close were Chaotic Cat (Tale of the Cat - Joyful Chaos by Rahy), Original Kitten, and Spun Clear. Original Kitten moved to the lead, with Chaotic Cat and Spun Clear chasing. They couldn't catch Original Kitten, who went on to post a 3 1/4 length win. Spun Clear was second, a length better than Chaotic Cat, and Debonair Dancer made up some ground to take fourth. Taking the Side Road

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Term Loan (City Place - Appella by World Appeal) opened at 1-9, and only drifted up a bit as post time approached. Knock Rock (Corinthian - Lady Cozzette by Cozzene) was 13-1, and Power Ballad (Corinthian - Bandstand by Deputy Minister) was almost 40-1. Term Loan looked the part in the paddock. Champagne City (Belong to Me - Steady Glow by Halo) was a little agitated on the track. Power Ballad looked better than his odds, and Knock Rock looked his usual self. The start was decent. Term Loan went right to the front, with Man in Brown Suit (Van Nistelrooy - Lion Lemon 'n Lime by Lion Hearted) in pursuit. Term Loan continued to lead, Marimba Man (Ghostzapper - Marimba Rhythm by Golden Missile) moved into second, but then retreated. Dilatory (Grand Reward - Golddigger Beware by Prenup) and Side Road (Street Cry (IRE) - Calla Lily by Pulpit) moved closer. Side Road made a run at Term Loan, and went on by for a 4 length win. A tired Term Loan held second over Dilatory. Knock Rock made up a little ground to finish 5th, and Power Ballad was 7th. Watch the Replay.

Tell Me Everything About the Win

Andrew's Girl (Lawyer Ron - Pondering by Storm Cat) was scratched, allowing AE entrant Awesome Angie (Awesome Again - Dream About by Cherokee Run) to run. The turf was firm, and Harlan Showgirl (Harlan's Holiday - Dynasharp by Dynaformer) was favored. Queen of England (English Channel - Babae (CHI) by Barkerville) was 16-1, but she was looking good. I was liking Zendara (Mizzen Mast - Accompanist by Fantastic Fellow) a bit. There was some bumping at the break, and Harlan Showgirl seemed to take the worst of it. Zendara set the pace, chased by Queen of England and Tell Me Everything (Giant's Causeway - Confessional by Holy Bull). Zendara continued on top, as Harlan Showgirl got involved. Zendara spurted away a bit, but the others reeled her in. Tell Me Everything came through on the inside to grab the lead, and crossed the wire in front despite ducking out. Magnifica (Mizzen Mast - Palisade by Gone West) moved into second late, and Maggie the Cat (Discreet Cat - Black Java by Pine Bluff) was flying at the end to take third by neck over Queen of England. There was a stewards' inquiry into Tell Me Everything's behavior, and Scott Spieth, jockey of Queen of England, also claimed foul against her. They studied the replay a long time, before declaring the results official with no change. Watch the Replay.

Smoking to the Win

Only the AEs were out, and the turf was firm. Chickie Charms (Rockport Harbor - Count Sequence by Forestry) was favored, and Aqua Revelation (English Channel - Alozaina (IRE) by Perugino) was 9-1. First-timer Declan (Exchange Rate - O K to Dance by With Approval) was the buzz horse, starting off at 5-1, before going off at 11-1. I liked the look of Montego Bay (War Chant - Exotic Point by Point Given) and Smoking G (Smoke Glacken - Whitewashed by Broad Brush). Smoking G and Chickie Charms went for the early lead, with Chickie Charms winning that battle. Aqua Revelation was in the mix as well. Chickie Charms continued in front, chased by Smoking G and Aqua Revelation. As they traveled over the dirt patch, Fable Haven (Stolen Gold - Umbrella Girl by Slewdledo) moved into the picture. Smoking G came on again and went by for a length win. Coming on late between horses was No Silent (Silent Name (JPN) - Two Names by War Chant), who snagged second. Chickie Charms held third over Fable Haven. Aqua Revelation tired to 11th, but he should improve next time out. Watch the Replay.
