A Big Win for Small Kitchen

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Crossing the Tape (Johannesburg - Gabriellina Giof (GB) by Ashkalani (IRE)) took the early money, but Small Kitchen (Corinthian - Banshee Girl by Deputy Minister) was favored at post time. She was looking nice in the paddock. Her mane was all nicely braided, ready for the photo? Contact (Touch Gold - Viva by Pulpit) was kicking up her heels. The fillies were all pretty happy in this one. Longshot Closing Image (Closing Argument - Hidden Image by Cherokee Run) kept catching my eye. Crossing the Tape was reluctant to load. Closing Image was squeezed at the start, and trailed. American Kitty (Tale of the Cat - American Diva by Quiet American) and Crossing the Tape were dueling early. Small Kitchen was just off this pair. She made a move, hit the front, and kept on going. Capable Argument (Closing Argument - Highly Capable by High Yield) ran into second, but there was no catching Small Kitchen, who registered a professional 5 length win. Capable Argument was well clear in second, Vuitton (Smart Strike - Juliet's Way by Farma Way) ran late to take third, and American Kitty tired to fourth. Watch the Replay.

Princess Medora Survives

Lady Carolyn (After Market - Gracious Hope by Rahy) was scratched, leaving 5 on the fast track. You Hear Us Coming (Stormy Atlantic - Quiet Down by Quiet American) was favored, Survival Instinct (Corinthian - Mezzo by Broad Brush) was 27-1. I was liking Princess Medora (Songandaprayer - Never Gone by Gone West) a bit in the paddock. You Hear Us Coming looked good on the track, and Survival Instinct had some spring, but I was still liking Princess Medora. Survival Instinct was loaded first and without the rider. She broke slowly. Princess Medora set the pace, chased by Dafina (Awesome Again - Belle's Appeal by Valid Appeal), and You Hear Us Coming in third. They bunched up a bit, as the pace slowed. But, then Princess Medora took off again, building up a 5 length lead. Two Hearts in One (Outflanker - Teresa's Angel by Valley Crossing) made a run, closing the gap, but at the finish Princess Medora was still a length in front. You Hear Us Coming was third, Dafina was fourth, and Survival Instinct, who checked early, was 5th (last). Watch the Replay.
