Gameday News Scares Up a Win

News and Notes

I have been working on the stallion pages, and I have the spreadsheets for Midnight Lute and Henrythenavigator completed. However, after recording Henrythenavigator's 220 registered 2-year-olds, including Southern Hemisphere offspring, I needed a brreak. So, I will not have the pages up today. My new target date for completion is Tuesday, February 7.

I apologize for not previewing Gameday News' Friday race at Oaklawn. I am in the process of moving horses around on the different watch systems, and I guess he got misplaced. It was kind of an eventful race. The recap is included below.

Gameday News Scares Up a Win

The track was muddy, but all 10 ran. Master Rick (Master Command - Whata Gem by Maria's Mon) was favored, but Gameday News (Corinthian - Summer Scene by Belong to Me) was well-respected as well. Master Rick was rushed to the lead, Unbridled Venture (Songandaprayer - High Proposal by High Yield) and Gold Peg (Fusaichi Pegasus - Lure of Gold by Formal Gold) set after him. Unbridled Venture moved on Master Rick, and these two separated from the others. Gameday News was in a good spot on the rail in fourth. Downtown Ghost (Ghostzapper - Downtown Blues by Seattle Song) began making up ground on the inside, while Gameday News moved with him on the outside. These two both left Master Rick behind. Downtown Ghost surged to the lead, but he drifted in front of Gameday News several times. Downtown Ghost finished 4 lengths in front of Gameday News, but the Inquiry Sign went up immediately. After studying the evidence, a change was made, as Gameday News was made the official winner, and Downtown Ghost was placed second. Coming on for third was Victory Courts (Pleasant Tap - Countessnistelrooy by Van Nistelrooy), while Imperial Truth (Empire Maker - Picture Palace by Caerleon) was fourth. Watch the Replay.

Showing Some Bourbon Courage

Safely Spun (Hard Spun - Safely by Unbridled) was scratched. The track was fast for the rest. Cigar Street (Street Sense - Arcadiana by Deputy Minister) was favored, and Street Serenade (Street Sense - Rosemark by Deputy Minister) was 11-1. Revere (Awesome Again - Praise by Mr. Prospector) had some spring in his step. Macho Macho (Macho Uno - Dazzling Contrast by General Meeting) looked ready for action. Both Cigar Street and Street Serenade looked good, although I prefered the latter. West Mongolia (Gone West - Cherie Yvonne by Vice Regent) was reluctant to load. Castlepost (Lion Heart - Diamond Tiara by Mr. Greeley) and Bourbon Courage (Lion Heart - Shine Forth by Carson City) battled early, but Castlepost retreated after a half to leave the lead to Bourbon Courage. Drago's Best (Seeking the Best (IRE) - Saint Parker by Saint Ballado) began to get involved, setting after Bourbon Courage. Bourbon Courage continued to fly, however, and extended his lead to win by 4 1/4 lengths. Drago's Best was secure in second, while Revere ran late to take third. Cigar Street was bumped at the start, and was shuffled back. He did pick up a few spots late to finish 5th. Street Serenade didn't do much running while going wide, and finished 9th. His jockey, James Graham, dropped his whip, but I don't think it affected his finish. Watch the Replay.

Love Heart Running

All five on the fast track. Favoritism bounced around a bit, finally settling on Dial Direct (Touch Gold - Touch Dial by Phone Trick). Boudicca (Hard Spun - Taft Lil Queen by Irish Open) was 9-2. She was off lasix for this race, after having it previously. Honest Truth (Sky Mesa - Trueytoo by Concern) looked like a winner in the paddock. Boudicca looked good on the track. The start was good. Love Heart (Lion Heart - Wings of the Storm by Valley Crossing) went to the front, and was soon several lengths in front. Breezy Girl (Scipion - Breezy Bray by Yarrow Brae) was chasing early, then Dial Direct set after Love Heart. But there was no catching that filly, who posted a 2 1/2 length win. Boudicca broke ok, steadied a little, and trailed for most of the race, finishing fifth. Watch the Replay.
