A Squall Overtakes the Walk

Only AE entrant Scatter Joy (Scat Daddy - Rare Elegance by Forestry) was left on the sidelines, and the track was fast. Spin Out (Hard Spun - Island Queen by Ogygian) was favored, and Closerwalk (Street Sense - Cool Pussycat by Tabasco Cat) was the second-choice at 3-1. Elusive Success (Successful Appeal - Racing Quality by Elusive Quality) was off slowly, and Well Intentioned (Silver Deputy - Sincerely by Meadowlake) was steadied and trailed. Core Inflation (Closing Argument - by Tabasco Cat) went to the front, but he had company from Venture World (Elusive Quality - Freudenau by Meadowlake) and Closerwalk. Spin Out wasn't that far off either. Ethan's Tune (Concorde's Tune - Princess Biagi by Quaker Ridge) came up the rail to join the early fray. Closerwalk moved to the lead, pressed by Spin Out, with Venture World and Core Inflation sticking close. Closerwalk continued to lead into the stretch, but gobbling up ground was Bahamian Squall (Gone West - Midway Squall by Storm Bird). He rolled on by for a 1 1/4 length win over Closerwalk. Finishing well for third was Venture World, with Spin Out weakening to finish fourth. Watch the Replay.

Dawn Comes Strong

All ten ran, including the entry of Closing Move (Bernardini - Show Me the Roses by Storm Cat) and Glorietta Bay (A.P. Indy - Miss Coronado by Coronado's Quest). The track was fast. Wait Til Dawn (Giant's Causeway - Path of Thunder by Thunder Gulch) was the 4-5 choice, S S Pinafore (Street Sense - Pinafores Pride by Saint Ballado) was 8-1. The start was good. S S Pinafore was among those breaking for the lead. But, Flashy American (Flashy Bull - Inn Between by Quiet American) emerged from the pack to set the early pace. Wait Til Dawn and both halves of the entry were the closest pursuers, but the field was fairly compact. S S Pinafore had a good spot on the rail in mid-pack. Wait Til Dawn moved closer to Flashy American, as they went into the turn. S S Pinafore was working hard to keep up with the leading group. Wait Til Dawn hit the front, as they entered the stretch. Both Glorietta Bay and Closing Move were coming. Closing Move won the battle of the entry-mates over Glorietta Bay, but that pair was better than 2 behind winner Wait Til Dawn. Pacesetter Flashy American settled for fourth. S S Pinafore flattened out and finished 6th. Watch the Replay.

First-timer Prime Maker (Empire Maker - Safe Haven by A.P. Indy) was favored. Extra Cool (Street Sense - Coolwind by Forest Wildcat) was 92-1, and Street Fantasy (Street Sense - Rich Fantasy by Richter Scale) was 30-1. Prime Maker hopped a bit at the start. Diamond d'Oro kept her company for awhile, with Teller Terri (Mizzen Mast - Special Brush by Broad Brush), Perfect Forever (Perfect Soul (IRE) - Lemons Forever by Lemon Drop Kid), and Extra Cool all near the lead. A. P. Azerin (A.P. Indy - Silent Sighs by Benchmark) made a big move to get into second, but she couldn't sustain it, as Teeny Liz shook free again.
