Our first Big Brown worker, as Pass the Hat (colt; Big Brown - Procellous by Smarty Jones) went 2 furlongs in :24.60 at Crupi's New Castle Farm on February 10. This was actually Pass the Hat's third official work, as he worked 2 furlongs in :24.70 on January 27, and 2 furlongs in :24.20 on February 3. Those works were also at Crupi's New Castle Farm. Pass the Hat was purchased for $80,000 as a yearling, and is the first foal out of the unraced mare Procellous. Procellous is a half sister to 4 winners, including grade I winner Exogenous, who earned $945,560.

Drogue Turns Loose
Spin Zone (Candy Ride (ARG) - Harve de Grace by Boston Harbor) was scratched, leaving seven. The track was fast. Courtroom Drama (Doneraile Court - Awesome Frances by Awesome Again) took the early money, but Followyourdaddy (Dehere - Just Cozy by Cozzene) was favored at post time. Skyring (English Channel - Violet Lady by Seattle Slew) was 9-1, but he looked good in the paddock. Il Mostro (Tapit - Life Is Beautiful by De Niro) was showing some spunk in the post parade, and Skyring made a good impression on the track. There was a scramble for the early lead. Byrd William (Bellamy Road - Gracious Granny by Lost Code) grabbed it, but he was running off of the rail. Courtroom Drama and Skyring were up close, and the entire field was only covered by a couple of lengths. Drogue (Victory Gallop - Blu Spur by Northern Spur (IRE)) and Skyring began moving on the outside, Courtroom Drama was still involved as well. Drogue sprinted free and took command. On the Loose Again (Jump Start - French Lady by French Deputy) made a late run, but Drogue was home free by 1 3/4 lengths.
