Sweet Seventeen (filly; Hard Spun - Play Ballado by Saint Ballado) dueled with Marvelous Margaret (Put It Back - Port Isabel by Time to Explode) from the start of the Busher Stakes, put that rival away, and held off Off Limits (Include - Swinging by Wild Again) for the victory. Watch the Replay.

Avie's Sense (filly; Street Sense - Fly for Avie by Lord Avie) went to the lead in the Rachel Alexandra Stakes (gr. III) at Fair Grounds, and fought hard to the finish, but couldn't hold off Summer Applause (Harlan's Holiday - Summer Exhibition by Royal Academy), who won by a length. Inny Minnie (filly; Hard Spun - Inny River by Seattle Slew) chased Avie's Sense in the early stages, but had to settle for third. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Rachel Alexandra here.

Afford (colt; Street Sense - Unaffordable by Unbridled) finished 6th, and Optimizer (colt; English Channel - Indy Pick by A. P. Indy) was 9th in the Risen Star (gr. II) at Fair Grounds. El Padrino (Pulpit - Enchanted Rock by Giant's Causeway) and Mark Valeski (Proud Citizen - Pocho's Dream Girl by Fortunate Prospect) battled to the finish, with El Padrino taking it by a nose. Watch the Replay. I think Afford deserves another shot, but I would love to see Optimizer back on the turf. Read more about the Risen Star here.

A Capital Win

All six ran on the fast track. Got What (Mr. Greeley - Silver Tornado by Maria's Mon) took the early money, but Rockin Boogie (Rockport Harbor - Only Seventeen by Exploit) was favored at post time. Capital Goods (Corinthian - T. K. O. Lady by Two Punch) got some respect at 3-1. Got What looked good in the paddock, and Luckysdream (Will He Shine - Satan's Satchel by Devil's Bag) had some spirit. Capital Goods was warming up nicely, but Luckysdream kept catching my eye. Rockin Boogie was off to a fast start, but Luckysdream went by to set the pace. Capital Goods set after him. Capital Goods began to gain on Luckysdream, as Rockin Boogie came up the rail. Capital Goods hit the front, and held off Rockin Boogie, who continued to close. The final margin was a neck. Macho Macho Performance

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Macho Macho (Macho Uno - Dazzling Contrast by General Meeting) opened at 4-5, but drifted up to almost 3-1 when they broke. Very Lucky (Istan - Mazel Tov by Mazel Trick), who looked good in the post parade, was the choice at post time. Safely Spun (Hard Spun - Safely by Unbridled) was 4-1, and Parabellum (Street Sense - Shaconage by El Prado (IRE)) was almost 10-1. On looks, I prefered Parabellum, who warmed up nicely. Longshot Mucho Grandioso (Quiet American - Known Heiress by Known Fact) was reluctant to join the others on the track. Mongol Max (Lawyer Ron - Wildcat Beauty by Forest Wildcat) looked ready for action, and he broke running to set the early pace. Mucho Macho and Sold Out Show (Tale of the Cat - Hot Attraction by Pulpit) were in pursuit of the leader. Macho Macho moved up to press Mongol Max, and then surged to the lead. Parabellum was running well late to grab second, but he was no match for Macho Macho, who took it by 2 1/4 lengths. Agent Di Nozzo (Ghostzapper - Quick Tip by Unaccounted For) closed well to take third, and Mongol Max weakened to fourth, just holding off Safely Spun, who was gaining late. Watch the Replay.

An Unremitting Win

Only the Also Elgibles were left out, as 14 ran on the good turf. Bettors had trouble picking a favorite, finally settling on Attendant (More Than Ready - Queen's Play by Kingmambo), who went off at a tepid 7-2. Street Serenade (Street Sense - Rosemark by Deputy Minister) and Mojo Workin (English Channel - Laramie Moon (ARG) by Laramie Trail) were both 5-1. St Moose (Lemon Drop Kid - Lady Reiko (IRE) by Sadler's Wells) caught my eye as they headed to the track, and I was liking the look of Uncle Danny (Gone West - Nicky's Intuition by Unbridled's Song). The start was decent, although there was some bumping. Street Serenade went to the front. Up close were Uncle Danny, St Moose, and Senor Peligroso (El Corredor - Devil's Dispute by Devil's Bag). Street Serenade continued to lead, but Uncle Danny wanted to go. He was so headstrong that he bolted on the first turn, and was pulled up. Unremitting (Rahy - Accessory by Royal Academy), who was at the back early, made a move to get involved, and went on by Street Serenade. Sachem Spirit (Mr. Greeley - Ballette (IRE) by Giant's Causeway)  and Attendant came running, but Unremitting had enough left to secure a 1 1/2 length win. Street Serenade weakened to 8th after his early speed, and Mojo Workin was mid-pack early, but weakened and finished 10th. This was kind of a wild race with some horses that didn't seem to care for the course. The winner looked good, but most of the rest might need a do-over. Watch the Replay.

The Kid Gets the Ring

The track was fast, and there were no scratches. On the Loose Again (Jump Start - French Lady by French Deputy) was favored. Goingoingone (Corinthian - Clifton Bay by Gone West) was 7-2, Skyring (English Channel - Violet Lady by Seattle Slew) was 12-1, and Cori (Corinthian - Minnie's Minister by Deputy Minister) was 25-1. Risky Recovery (Congrats - Scarlet Gold by Unbridled's Song) went to the front, but Skyring was right with him. Those two dueled for the first half. Skyring took over the lead at that point, as Risky Recovery began to retreat. Seventeen and One (Macho Uno - Fuego Grande by Adonis) and Goingoingone advanced on the leader, and coming from the back was Kid Sidney (Lemon Drop Kid - Sidneys Angel Face by Skip Away), who had started slowly. Goingoingone moved into second, but he couldn't keep pace. The finish came down to Skyring and Kid Sidney. Both fought to the wire, but it was Kid Sidney by a head at the finish. Watch the Replay.
