Beggarthyneighbor (Half Ours - Postulant by Pulpit) broke on top in the Fred "Cappy" Capossela Stakes, but How Do I Win (ridgling; Corinthian - Silver Crown by Distorted Humor) came through to set the pace. Hardened Wildcat (gelding; Hard Spun - Wild Snitch by Forest Wildcat) was at the back early. It looked like it would be decided betweeen How Do I Win and Beggarthyneighbor, but Hardened Wildcat came rolling late and went by them both for a 1 3/4 length win. Give Him a Cigar!

All eleven ran on the fast track. Cigar Street (Street Sense - Arcadiana by Deputy Minister) was favored, and he looked the part. He went right to the lead. Revere (Awesome Again - Praise by Mr. Prospector) chased him early, and for the first 6 furlongs these two were fairly close. But, Cigar Street pulled away in the stretch, and left his rivals farther and farther behind. At the finish, Cigar Street was more than 13 in front of the others, who were led by Flashy Sunrise (Flashy Bull - Desert Sunrise by Came Home) aad Last Gunfighter (First Samurai - Saratoga Cat by Sir Cat). As the saying goes, I don't know what he beat, but he sure looked good doing it. Watch the Replay.

Ah Hard Spun, you win one, you lose won, kicked myself for not keying "Hardend Wildcat" in my pick-4, went with Pletcher flop, but had "Spinning Wildcat" though for my pick-3+....PS: looks like "Gemologist" may be running at GS on Friday in allowance rather than take on the big Rebel rumble at Oaklawn on Sat, if so, good move...? Race 12, TB on 3/10.  Nice looking first timer, Seanchai, trained by Leigh Delacour.  Boxed in on turn, waited, moved through on the rail, and drew clear in the stretch.  Was full of run.

I know NW2, this was the TB horse that beat me in my pick-4 and 5, I missed up my bet in the last leg and it cost me big time, believe it is an English Channel firster, I think I singled the JS #6, didn't stay to see the race, but saw results when I got home, ouch!

Don - Bet you had Queen of England in that one, just passed late by fellow-English Channel Seanchai.

12 Mar 2012 11:55 AM
NW2

Don - speaking of staying to see the race, TB was running about 25 minutes behind the published post times.  The Derby and the Swale were run virtually simultaneously. Fans (and we're declining in numbers) have complained for years about not synchronizing the simulcast schedules.  I just don't get why TB, since they were late,  couldn't have waited another 5 minutes to start the 11th.
