One Prickly Winner

The track was fast. All of those in the main field remained in, so the AE entrants were left to wait for another day. Eyes of Love (Put It Back - She Too by Stormy Atlantic), one of 4 with experience, was favored. Call Maritza (English Channel - Dicey Cat by Cat Thief) was 48-1. Favorite Eyes of Love broke on top, but Samantha Royale (Chapel Royal - Irish Fantasy by Glitterman) took advantage of her rail post to get the early lead. Eyes of Love tracked her in second. They were several lengths in front of the others, who were led by Prickly Pear (Cactus Ridge - Waverly by Gold Case) and Grandma's Rules (Orientate - Four Plus Four by Major Impact). Call Maritza was off slowly, and was near the back. Eyes of Love made a move on the outside on the turn, but Prickly Pear was getting closer. These two battled to the wire, with Prickly Pear getting her head in front at the finish. Closing well were Shepherd's Furey (Latent Heat - Native Wager by Valid Wager) and Miss Giacomo (Giacomo - Bless My Mary by Deposit Ticket), who picked up third and fourth. Call Maritza was never much involved after her slow beginning, finishing 9th.
