News and Notes

Ireland's first two-year-old race is on Sunday, March 25 at the Curragh, and it features the first runner for Henrythenavigator, the filly Infanta Branca (Henrythenavigator - Totemic by Vanlandingham). Infanta Branca is out of grade III winner Totemic, who was a winner at 2, and earned $138,438 in her career. Totemic has produced 4 winners, including stakes winner Art Museum, group III winner Cherokee, and grade II winner Lil's Lad. All three of Totemic's stakes winners were debut winners at 2, and both Art Museum and Cherokee broke their maidens at the Curragh. Totemic is a half sister to one winner. Also in this race is the first runner for New Approach, Dawn Approach (colt; New Approach (IRE) - Hymn of the Dawn by Phone Trick). More on this race on Saturday.

New worker for Midnight Lute, as Prohibiting (gelding; Midnight Lute - Blazing Cat by Tabasco Cat) worked 2 furlongs in :27.00 at Hastings Racecourse on March 18. Prohibiting was purchased for $30,000 as a yearling, and is out of the winning mare Blazing Cat. Blazing Cat has produced three winners from four to run, including stakes-placed Catty Buddha, and Monastir, who has earned $149,009. Blazing Cat is a half sister to 5 winners.

March 18 Results

Billy O (colt; Corinthian - Zada Rae by Unbridled's Song) led all the way in race 6 at Parx Racing, a 6 furlong Claiming Race, winning by 4 3/4 lengths. He now has 2 wins in 6 starts, with earnings of $38,660. Watch the Replay.

Princess Kiha (filly; Invasor (ARG) - Princess Belle by Mr. Greeley) was a winner by 2 3/4 lengths in race 1 at Turf Paradise, a Claiming Race scheduled for 7.5 furlongs on the turf, but run on the muddy main track. Princess Kiha now has 2 wins, 3 seconds, and 2 thirds in 9 starts. Watch the Replay. Interestingly, this was the last race run at Turf Paradise, as the remaining races were canceled on Sunday, as were all races on Monday and Tuesday. 

Michael P. (gelding; Corinthian - Le Chateau by Chester House) made a bid in race 7 at Tampa Bay Downs, a Maiden Claiming Race (Claimng Price $32,000) at a mile on the firm turf, but weakened and finished 6th. The winner was Dubai Time (Essence of Dubai - Time to Frolic by Pentelicus), who came from off the pace to win by 2 1/2 lengths. Watch the Replay.

Harvard (colt; Hard Spun - You Again by Wild Again) contended from the start in race 9 at Oaklawn Park, a Maiden Claiming Race (Claiming Price $10,000) for 3, 4, and 5-year-olds at 6 furlongs, but tired and finished 4th. However, it was a much improved effort for him. Favorite Hedge Your Risk (Hennessy - Hurricane Hannah by Southern Halo) led throughout, and won by 1 1/4 lengths. Watch the Replay.

Holy Invader (colt; Invasor (ARG) - Mariisima (PAN) by Jed Forest) was a winner in race 6 at Parx Racing, a mile Starter Allowance. He was favored in the race, went right to the front, and won by 4 3/4 lengths. That makes 2 wins in a row for Holy Invader, who also has 2 seconds in 5 starts. Watch the Replay.

Preach Easy (filly; Corinthian - Maypole Dance by Northern Raja) finished 5th in race 8 at Parx Racing, a mile and 70 yard Allowance Race. The winner was even-money favorite Winiliscious (Lawyer Ron - Wini Jones by Seeking the Gold). Watch the Replay.

Classy Citizen (Proud Citizen - Dowry by Belong to Me) finished 4th at 6 furlongs on March 7 at Laurel, behind Gagne. In her only other start, Classy Citizen was 4th at 5.5 furlongs at Laurel on February 18. She was purchased for $2,200 as a 2-year-old, and is out of the winning mare Dowry, who earned $105,385. Dowry is the dam of grade I winner Nereid, who has earned $238,800. Dowry is a half sister to 6 winners, including stakes winners The Herc and Malibu Win.

Penthouse Party (Offlee Wild - Expect Excellence by Pentelicus) is a veteran of 5 races. Last year, she finished 9th at 6 furlongs at Delaware Park on September 10, 6th at 6 furlongs on a muddy track at Laurel on November 16, and 3rd at a mile on a fast track at Aqueduct on December 14. This year, she was 5th in a mile and 70 yard race at Aqueduct on January 8, and 3rd in a mile race at Laurel on February 17.
