Must Be the Shoes

The track was fast, and all 8 ran. Lobshot (Langfuhr - Chispiski by Appealing Skier) was the even money favorite. Spun Clear (Hard Spun - Diaphanous by Unbridled) was 4-1, and Aghaany (Invasor (ARG) - Spun Sugar by Awesome Again) was almost 14-1. Stormy Tak (Stormy Atlantic - Lady Tak by Mutakddim) looked good, and Spun Clear made her usual favorable impression. Aghaany was lively on the track, and I couldn't fault the favorite on looks. Overall, this was a grand looking bunch. But, it was Amazing Shoes (Empire Maker - Isabell's Shoes by King of Kings (IRE)) who caught my eye the most. Lobshot broke through the gate pre-start, but did not get away from the assistant starter, and everything was soon back in order. Stormy Tak broke on top, but Spun Clear was right with her. These two continued to go head-and-head, as Lobshot and Mellow Tizzie (Tiznow - Irish Melody by Unbridled's Song) began to get involved. Suddenly into the picture on the outside was Amazing Shoes. She rolled by everyone, and went on to post a 3 1/2 length win. It was tight for second, with Lobshot just getting her nose in front of Mellow Tizzie. Spun Clear tired after her earlier duel, finishing 6th. Aghanny was not much involved finishing 7th. I think it may take more than 6 furlongs to get her legs unfolded. Watch the Replay.
