Girls Rule

All seven ran on the Polytrack. Bugle Call (Lemon Drop Kid - Clambake (IRE) by Grand Lodge) was favored. Also getting play was Courtney's Hope (Henny Hughes - Mama Dean by Woodman) at 5-2. Evolutionary (Curlin - Gilded Wings by Gilded Times) was 5-1, and looked decent on the track. Bethany Belle (Successful Appeal - Come On Get Happy by Mr. Greeley) looked ready for action. Metonga Mist (Mr Livingston - Proper Applause by Proper Reality), the only filly with experience, was a little restless in the gate. Evolutionary stumbled at bit at the break, and bumped slightly with Heart to Me (El Nino - Post Marked by Stop the Music). Girls Rock N Rule (Good Reward - Bonita Gail by Geiger Counter) went to the front, and was soon several lengths in the lead. There was a pack after her, led by Bethany Belle and Courtney's Hope. Evolutionary recovered from her awkward and started making up ground on the rail. She then switched to the outside, to go by Bethany Belle and take third. Girls Rock N Rule continued on top, however, pulling away from her competition. She crossed the line 9 3/4 lengths in front of second-place Courtney's Hope, who was three lengths better than Evolutionary. The latter filly was secure in third, 2 1/2 lengths better than the others, who were led by a weakening Bethany Belle. It was an impressive run from Girls Rock N Roll, but not a bad debut from Evolutionary, who showed some desire after her bad start. Both she and Courtney's Hope were green down the stretch. Chris can you please explain to me why they insist on running 'That's our Princess' in a stakes race at Woodbine on Saturday for her debut?

b1ue_eyes03 - It's a short field (5 entrants) and a purse of $150,000, so if she's training well, why not take a shot? It's not unknown for 2yos to win their debuts in stakes. I think of Inglorious, winner of the 2011 Queen's Plate, who won her first start at 2 in the Fanfreluche Stakes.
