News and Notes

I apologize for not previewing the debut of The Best Monkey (colt; The Green Monkey - Dandy Dulce by Dixieland Heat), as I did not get an entry notice. However, I do recap the race below.

June 30 Results

Stakes Result

Cristoforo Colombo (Henrythenavigator - La Traviata by Johannesburg) had the lead in the Group II Dubai Duty Free Full of Surprises Railway Stakes at the Curragh run over soft to heavy ground, but couldn't hold off Probably (DanehillDancer (IRE) - Wedding Morn (IRE), and had to settle for second. Pedro the Great (Henrythenavigator - Glatisant (GB) by Rainbow Quest) was involved for a time, but finished 5th.

Maiden Results

Brown Eyes Blue Them Away

The track was fast, and only the AEs were scratched. All Her Class (Street Cry (IRE) - Dreaming of Anna by Rahy) was favored, but Brown Eyes Blue (Big Brown - Golden Lips by Silver Ghost) also took a lot of play. All Her Class looked nice, but I was liking Double Tapped (Tapit - Fun House by Prized), and Brown Eyes Blue looked good warming up. She broke running, with All Her Class and Alluring Lady (Indygo Shiner - Queen Kaboom by Sword Dance (IRE)) after her. Brown Eyes Blue continued to lead chased by Alluring Lady, as Double Tapped made up some ground. Alluring Lady made a dent in the lead late, but there was no catching Brown Eyes Blue, who was 1 3/4 lengths in front at the finish. A nice professional win for Brown Eyes Blue, who is the first North American winner for Big Brown. Watch the Replay.

Rawaaq Too Much for the Henrys

The going was soft to heavy. Your Pal Tal (Dark Angel (IRE) - Good Health (GB) by Magic Ring (IRE)) was scratched. George Vancouver (Henrythenavigator - Versailles Treaty by Danzig) was even money, and Leitir Mor (Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) - Christinas Letter (IRE) by Galileo (IRE)) was also well respected. Afonso de Sousa (Henrythenavigator - Mien by Nureyev) was 10-1, and Clancy Avenue (Henrythenavigator - Saintly Speech by Southern Halo) was 11-1. Horizon Sky (Duke of Marmalade (IRE) - Mala Mala (IRE) by Brief Truce) went to the front pursued by George Vancouver and Leitir Mor. Leitir Mor took the lead, as Horizon Sky retreated. It looked like it would be decided between Leitir Mor and George Vancouver, but then Rawaaq (Invincible Spirit (IRE) - Zaqrah by Silver Hawk) rolled by everyone for the win. Leitir Mor held second, and Afonso de Sousa took third, as George Vancouver weakened. Clancy Avenue was slow to start and didn't make up much ground, finishing 7th.

Brave Dave's Day

Eight ran on the fast track. Brave Dave (Put It Back - Sing That Song by Songandaprayer) was favored. Also given a good shot was Sexy Boy (Bwana Charlie - Cinnamon Buns by Homebuilder). The Best Monkey (The Green Monkey - Dandy Dulce by Dixieland Heat) was 12-1. He made a decent appearance. I was kind of liking Saturday Special (Any Given Saturday - Nascat by Hennessy). Brave Dave broke running. Singanothersong (Songandaprayer - Mims Eppi by Cactus Ridge) was in pursuit. The Green Monkey was up close as well. Brave Dave and Singanothersong began to separate from the others. The Best Monkey hung in there for awhile, but then retreated. He ended up fifth. Brave Dave continued to pull away. Singanothersong was the only one sticking close, but he was unable to gain, and Brave Dave came home 1 1/4 lengths in front. Singanothersong was 9 in front of the rest, which were led by Saturday Special and City of Weston (Holy Bull - How About Dattt by Souvenir Copy). Watch the Replay.
