News and Notes

Get Me a Cocktail (Big Brown - Impressive Attire by Seeking the Gold) was scratched from the 9th at Arlington Park. The winner was Distant Mesa (Battle Star - Ms. Kinsey by Classified Facts), who took the lead from the start and never looked back, winning by 9 3/4 lengths. Watch the Replay.

Into Mischief picked up his first winner when Avalon Rose (filly; Into Mischief - Unsaid by Unbridled's Song) won the first race at River Downs on July 5, a 5 furlong Maiden Special Weight. It was her second start, as she finished 8th at 5.5 furlongs at Churchill Downs on June 7. Watch the Replay. Read more about Avalon Rose here.

July 5 Result

Carried Over Malice

I missed the prelims on this one because of a meeting. The track was fast, and only AE entrant Honorable Dillon (Tapit - Shy Greeting (ARG) by Shy Tom) was left on the sidelines. Horsepower (Bernardini - Moroccan Rose by Carson City) was favored by a tick over Palace Malice (Curlin - Palace Rumor by Royal Anthem). Carried Interest (Henny Hughes - Missamerica Bertie by Quiet American) was also well-respected. There was a bit of restless in the gate before the start. Coolusive (Elusive Quality - Ice Cool Kitty by Tomorrows Cat) and Boss Man Rocket (War Front - Henna by Horse Chestnut (SAF)) were off slowly. Sayaad (Street Sense - Time for a Crown by Time for a Change) and Carried Interest went for the lead. The next pair was Translation (Street Sense - Beduin Eyes by Seattle Slew) and Palace Malice. Carried Interest shook free from Sayaad as they came out of the turn, but Palace Malice and Horsepower were after him. Palace Malice tried to the end, but couldn't quite catch up with Carried Interest, who was 1/2 length in front at the wire. However, Palace Malice was 6 3/4 lengths in front of Horsepower, who took third. Making up some ground after his poor start was Coolusive, who claimed fourth. Nice debut for Palace Malice, who likely will be odds on next time out. Watch the Replay.
