An Unflinching Win

Rumble (Capitano - Tantalize by Red Ransom), part of an entry with Captain's Mandate (Capitano - Suzy's Mandate by Full Mandate), was the only scratch, leaving 8 to run, including two entries. The entry of Unflinching (Straight Man - Lucky Cassie by Carnivalay) and Brezno (Proud Accolade - Seven Two Offsuit by Robyn Dancer) was favored. Moonshot Monkey (The Green Monkey - Moonstriker by Smart Strike), who was racing with no hind shoes, was 7-1. There was an abbreviated post parade on account of the heat. Candy Shack (Candy Ride (ARG) - Noon Win by Winthrop) looked good, and Perfect Time Out (Pleasantly Perfect - Traceable by Forest Wildcat) had some spring in his step. Moonshot Monkey made a decent impression, and she loaded smoothly. The start was fair. Perfect Time Out was off well, but Unflinching went by to set the pace. Candy Shack emerged from the pack to set after Unflinching. Moonshot Monkey was in 5th early. Unflinching continued to lead, chased by Candy Shack. Brezno began to make up ground. Unflinching cruised home to a 2 1/2 length win. Her entrymate Brezno got up for second, with Perfect Time Out clear in third. Moonshot Monkey tired to 8th (last). Watch the Replay.

Misty Swamps Them

There were no scratches, and the turf was firm. Snappy Girl (Student Council - Snap to It by Honour and Glory) was favored, and Open Summary (Touch Tone - Open Meadows by Open Forum) and Sapphire Breeze (Eddington - Dare You to Move by Coronado's Quest) were given some respect. Rock Hard Berry (Rock Hard Ten - Winterberry by Storm Cat) and Irrationalbehavior (Istan - Rationale by Gilded Time) came out of the gate slowly, giving the others a several length head start. Snappy Girl went to the lead. She was chased by Completely Wright (Flower Alley - Sea Puffin by Mt. Livermore) and Misty Swamp (Swamp - Willing Woman by Valid Expectations). Also up close were Chena Miss (Fairbanks - Firecard by Press Card) and Open Summary (Touch Tone - Open Meadows by Open Forum). The pace slowed a bit, allowing Chena Miss and Completely Wright to get closer to Snappy Girl. Sapphire Breeze (Eddington - Dare You to Move by Coronado's Quest) made a big move on the outside, but she was running greenly. Misty Swamp came through on the inside, and got by Snappy Girl for a 1 1/2 length win. Sapphire Breeze overtook Snappy Girl late for second. However, Sapphire Breeze was disqualified from second and placed fourth for interferring with Chena Miss. I love the way that Sapphire Breeze finished. If she can maintain a straight course, she is definitely one to watch next time. By the way, notice the show payoff on Chena Miss. Sometimes it does pay to bet to show. Watch the Replay.
