Stay Foolish Over Miss Brown

All ten ran, including the entry of Stay Foolish (Wimbledon - Slews Return by Came Home) and Simple (After Market - Weekend Gold by Seeking the Gold). I Am Miss Brown (Big Brown - Formal Miss by Formal Dinner) opened as the heavy favorite. She was still favored at post time, but at a more reasonable 2-1. Also getting play was the only experienced filly Always a Surprise (First Samurai - Ice Cream Cone by Seeking the Gold). She looked a little on edge in the paddock, but looked better on the track. I Am Miss Brown looked decent, and I was liking Crookedpathtoglory (J Be K - Heavenly Halo by Grindstone). Stay Foolish looked like she wasn't quite sure about the proceedings at first, but the pony settled her down. Lil Miss Ellie Mae (Indygo Shiner - Dear Delilah by Expelled) was reluctant to load. The finally got her in, but she was still fractious and had to be unloaded. Crookedpathtoglory was also unloaded. Everyone got back in, and they were off. Seeking Treasure (Run Away and Hide - My O'Trebor by Dynafomer) was off slowly. There was a bit of a scramble for the early lead, but Stay Foolish emerged with it. Winnie Cappella (Johannesburg - Ace's Cappella by Victory Gallop), Crookedpathtoglory, and Simple were chasing the leader. Stay Foolish continued to show the way into the stretch. She went on to post a 2 3/4 length win. Crookedpathtoglory and Seeking Treasure both finished well to take second and third. Winnie Cappella and Simple weakened a bit to finish in fourth and fifth. I Am Miss Brown swerved in at the start from her rail position and ran fairly evenly, finishing 6th. Watch the Replay.

Kauai Katie Impresses

Also-Eligible The Party's Here (Black Mambo - Inaspecial Way by Seattle Sleet) was left out, and Ruby Lips (Hard Spun - Its a Ruby by Rubiano) was a late scratch. The track was fast. First-timer Kauai Katie (Malibu Moon - More Than Pretty by More Than Ready) was favored. Also respected were Kansas (Majestic Warrior - Leeward City by Carson City) and Lenderoflastresort (Yes It's True - Pashmina by Pentelicus). Distortion (Distorted Humor - Misty Rosette by Stormin Fever) looked good at first glance, and longshot Merkadona (First Defence - Simply Speed by Forestry) caught my eye. Lenderoflastresort was given a strong warm-up. Distortion was restless in the gate. She was backed out and reloaded, but still broke slowly, giving the others a several length headstart. Later, she bore out, and ended up finishing 6th. Kauai Katie went to the front, with Lenderoflastrestort, Charming Becky (Dixie Union - Marvelous Me by Capote), and Merkadona her closest pursuers. They stuck close for a time, but then Kauai Katie shook free. She went on to post an impressively easy 12 length victory. Kansas was the best of the others, claiming second over Lenderoflastresort, with Garmentos Girl (Indian Charlie - Misgoldy by Miswaki) fourth. Watch the Replay.

Lignite Ignites for the Win

Nola Girl (Storm Surge - Boy Crazy by Sky Mesa) was scratched, along with AE entrant My Happy Face (Tiz Wonderful - Summer Star by Siberian Summer), leaving 7 on the fast track. Kimono (Bernardini - Runnin Ute by Gone West) was favored by a tick over the experienced Lignite (Run Away and Hide - Internal Affair by Orientate). Liberty Girl (A. P. Warrior - Champagne Glow by Saratoga Six) looked good, as did favorite Kimono. Toasting (Congrats - Ponderway by Prized) was squeezed at the start. Lignite broke like a Wesley Ward trained horse should, taking the early lead. Kimono and Wine Glow (Tiznow - Cool Storm by Storm Cat) were chasing early. Lignite continued to lead. The only one with a chance to catch her was Kimono. That filly reduced the lead to 3/4 length late, but Lignite had too much of a head start and won easily. Kimono was more than 6 in front of Sustained (War Front - Sweetstorm Amy by Lemon Drop Kid), who ran late for third. Toasting took fourth after her tardy beginning. Lignite is the second winner for Run Away and Hide. Watch the Replay.
