Archer Hill Hits the Bullseye

The turf was firm, and only the AEs and MTOs were left out. Archer Hill (Big Brown - La Femme Galante by Grand Slam) was favored. He looked calm and composed in the paddock. I was liking Julesco (Noble Causeway - Bid of Genius by Beau Genius), the only filly in the race. Slimshady (Raffie's Majesty - Shady Lane by Peaks and Valleys) seemed a bit on edge, and Arctic Missile (Golden Missile - Donandru's Arctic by Take Me Out) and West Hills Giant (Frost Giant - Outtawesthills by Take Me Out) both caught my eye. The load was pretty smooth, although Notacatbutallama (Harlan's Holiday - Self Rising by Hansel) was a little stubborn. Sir Leslie (Stonesider - Commander's Lady by Deputy Commander), from the one hole, and Economy of Words (Read the Footnotes - Azucaa by Future Storm), from the 10 hole, were both off awkwardly. Holy Endeavor (Noble Causeway - Saint Kris by Kris S.) grabbed the lead. He was pressed by Everydoghashisday (Bluegrass Cat - Silence Please by Quiet American). Also near the front were Notacatbutallama and Slimshady. Everydoghashisday moved even with Holy Endeavor, as Sir Leslie made an early move to go from 10th to 4th. But, he got no nearer than than, and began to retreat again. Arctic Missile and Archer Hill both began moving. But, it was Archer Hill making the more sustained drive. He was forced a bit wide on the turn, but had the momentum, and was soon even with pacesetter Holy Endeavor. Holy Endeavor kept up for a beat or two, but Archer Hill prevailed, pulling away for a 1 1/2 length win. Showing a late burst was Notacatbutallama, who cleared Holy Endeavor for second. West Hills Giant made progress late to grab fourth, with Julesco in fifth. Archer Hill is the fourth winner for Big Brown. Watch the Replay.
