Savanna La Mar (filly; Curlin - Soft Morning by Pivotal (GB)) went right to the lead in the Group III German-Thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes run over goodto firm ground at Newmarket. She had to work hard, however, and was no match for favorite Certify (Elusive Quality - Please Sign In by Doc's Leader), who flew by them all for a length win over Sky Lantern (Red Clubs (IRE) - Shawanni (GB) by Shareef Dancer) and Reyaada (Daylami (IRE) - Walayef by Danzig). Savanna La Mar tired to fourth. Watch the Replay.

Mylute Makes Beautiful Music

All nine ran on the Polytrack. Mylute (Midnight Lute - Stage Stop by Valid Expectations) opened at 3-5, and didn't go up much from there. Bold Perspective (Sky Mesa - Zain Lass by Swain (IRE)) was looking peppy in the paddock. He is a big, flashy chestnut. I was liking Officer Parties (Officer - Lucky Striker by Van Nistelrooy) on the track, and I thought Quittin Time (Scat Daddy - Napili Bay by Katahaula County) looked interesting. But, Mylute definitely appeared ready. Officer Parties and Go Go Rocket (Tapit - Woods Bay by Mr. Greeley) went for the lead. Bahia Via (Stormy Atlantic - Cypriata by Seeking the Gold) and Ghost Kisser (Ghostzapper - For Kisses by Not For Love) were off slowly. Mylute was in third early, but he wanted to go. English Pound (English Channel - Andover the Money by Dynaformer) made a bid on the outside to take over third. Mylute finally got free, and took full advantage, pulling away for a 2 1/4 length win. Bold Perspective and Procurement (Milwaukee Brew - Free to Soar by Unbridled) both ran well late to finish second and third, with English Pound weakening a bit to finish fourth. Mylute is the second winner for Midnight Lute. Watch the Replay.

Midnight Ballet Dances by Kinz Funky Monkey

Revive Me (Kafwain - Silent Fusaichi by Fusaichi Pegasus) was scratched, leaving 6 on the Polytrack. First-timer Scooter Bird (War Pass - Miz Emmalou by Well Decorated) was favored. Kinz Funky Monkey (The Green Monkey - Pretty Ready by More Than Ready) was 2-1, and Midnight Ballet (Midnight Lute - Buzz Song by Unbridled's Song) was almost 9-1. Scooter Bird acted up a bit on the track just before the load. Sharp Bella (Sharp Humor - Bella Volare by Flying Continental) looked good. Kinz Funky Monkey went right to the lead, Midnight Ballet was off slowly, and trailed. Kinz Funky Monkey sped away from the others building up a nine length advantage. She was rolling along on the front. But the field began to catch up to her, with Midnight Ballet leading the charge. She closed with a rush, overtaking a weakened Kinz Funky Monkey to become Midnight Lute's third winner, and his second on the day. Kinz Funky Monkey had to settle for second. However, she's already earned over twice as much as sire The Green Monkey. Watch the Replay.

Full Moon Eclipses Chongo Verdi

The track was sloppy, but all 8 ran. Chongo Verdi (The Green Monkey - Tiz Spanish by Tiznow) was the overwhelming favorite. There was a delay before the post parade for a shoe repair on Silver Track (Silver Train - Chapala by Meadowlake). Piano Man Ten (Pomeroy - Darian Skye by Dance Master) caught my eye in the paddock, and Chongo Verdi looked good on the track. Uptown Anthem (Gottcha Gold - Strike the Harp by Sea Wall) needed a little encouragement to enter the gate, and Silver Track was a little skittish. Uptown Anthem was off to a slow start. There was a bit of a scramble for the early lead, then Chongo Verdi came through on the rail to grab it. He was pressed by Silver Track and Quite the Face (Straight Faced - Quite the Light by Colony Light). Then, Full Moon's Back (Put It Back - Moonshot by Grand Slam) joined the fun, and he and Chongo Verdi separated from the rest. They battled to the finish, with Full Moon's Back prevailing late for a 3/4 length win. Chongo Verdi was clear in second over Uptown Anthem, who ran on late for third. He was followed by the weakened Silver Track and Quite the Face. Chongo Verdi is still showing some greeness, running on the wrong lead, etc, so there is hope that there is still improvement in him. A Majestic Win

The track was sloppy, which led to the scratch of morning line favorite Archwarrior (Arch - Winner's Edge by Seeking the Gold). The public settled on Rugged (Distorted Humor - Composure by Touch Gold) as the new favorite. Air Squadron (Curlin - Air France by French Deputy) was 7-2. He's a striking chestnut with a big blaze and lots of white on his legs. Hotter N Blazes (Dixie Union - Hot Attraction by Pulpit) made a good appearance in the paddock. Air Squadron looked like he was having fun in the mud. Hotter N Blazes acted up during the load, which affected Casino Day (Flashy Bull - Shanade by Sentimental Slew). His jockey hopped off, and he was backed out and then reloaded. Overwhelming (Hard Spun - Oh What a Windfall by Seeking the Gold) hopped at the start. Casino Day collided with Air Squadron. Fighting for the lead were Rugged, Ithastobegeorge (Yes It's True - Lady Chip by Dixie Union), and Majestic Hussar (Majestic Warrior - Distorted Blaze by Distorted Humor). Majestic Hussar eased to the lead on the outside, and then began to pull away. He went on to post a 6 1/4 length win. Casino Day was all over the track, but moved into second , with a tired Ithastobegeorge just holding third over Air Squadron, who showed nice late interest. He should improved next time out. Majestic Hussar is the fifth winner for Majestic Warrior. Watch the Replay.

Winning is a Noun

The turf was firm. Pucker Up Phyllis (Lemon Drop Kid - Phyllis Sassy Girl by Concerto) and Bitty Kitty (Kitten's Joy - Littlebitoflove by High Yield) were scratched, which allowed AEs Lexie Will Bite (Killenaule - Mutakddims Revenge by Mutakddim) and Pure Fun (Pure Prize - Chelsea Green by Key to the Mint) to run. Noun (War Front - Vowel by Dynaformer) was favored, but Blue Violet (Curlin - Gasia by Silver Deputy) was respected at 7-2. Pure Fun was full of herself in the paddock. I was liking Lajitana (Tiznow - Lajitas by Siphon (BRZ)) on the track. Favored Noun was pretty keyed up. Blue Violet made a decent appearance. The start was good. Sweet Arabella (Lemon Drop Kid - Mint Leaf by Capote) got to the front from her rail position. Lajitana, Easy Tap (Tapit - Easily by Vicar), and Happy Flight (Majestic Warrior - Brush Hour by Broad Brush) were up close as well. Blue Violet wasn't far behind, but she was forced wide. Sweet Arabella continued to lead, but Noun was coming. She left Sweet Arabella behind, but she had to hold off Doctor Vickie Lynn (Elusive Quality - Pathway to Heaven by Giant's Causeway) on the outside, and Go Baby Go Go (More Than Ready - Zaafira by A.P. Indy) on the inside. At the wire, it was Noun by a neck over Doctor Vickie Lynn, with Go Baby Go Go in third, and Pure Fun fourth. Blue Violet was in a good position on the turn, had to check, and then encountered more traffic problems. Consider this start a learning experience for her. Watch the Replay.

Group II stakes-placed Cristoforo Colombo (colt; Henrythenavigator - La Traviata by Johannesburg) and Pedro the Great (Henrythenavigator - Glatisant (GB) by Rainbow Quest) meet in the 6 furlong Group I Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.
