Savanna La Mar (filly; Curlin - Soft Morning by Pivotal (GB)) finished 7th in the 7 furlong Group III Whiteley Clinic Prestige Stakes run over good to soft ground at Goodwood. She pressed the early leader Redressthebalance (Ramonti (FR) - Lady Naomi by Distant View), but weakened late. The winner was Ollie Olga (Stormy Atlantic - Card Shop by Chester House), who held off favorite Sky Lantern (Red Clubs (IRE) - Shawanni (GB) by Shareef Dancer) late. Ollie Olga is now undefeated in three starts. Watch the Replay.

Sexy Boy More than the Monkey Can Handle

The track was sloppy. Gold Vegas (Gottcha Gold - Wa Ka Ridge by Cox's Ridge), Aim to Win (Songandaprayer - Vee Cee Dancing by Pulpit), and Quite the Face (Straight Faced - Quite the Light by Colony Light) were scratched. Chongo Verdi (The Green Monkey - Tiz Spanish by Tiznow) opened as the 2-1 favorite, and took more money throughout the wagering, until he was 3-5 at post time. He looked good in the paddock. I was liking Derby Watch (Discreet Cat - Arctic's Angel by Artax) and Runnin Thunder (Van Nistelrooy - Onaccountofyou by Unaccounted For) on the track. Sexy Boy (Bwana Charlie - Cinnamon Buns by Homebuilder) was a little reluctant to load. The start was good, with Derby Watch off a little slowly. Chongo Verdi and Grand Bambu (Grand Slam - Big Bambu by Salt Lake) went for the lead. Grand Bambu claimed the front, and Chongo Verdi assumed a tracking position. They opened up on the others. Sexy Boy came with a big run on the rail to go by the pacesetters, and pulled away for a length victory. High Red Star (High Cotton - Red Ruffle by Montreal Red) claimed second late over Chongo Verdi, who had to settle for third. Another decent performance for Chongo Verdi, but he did seem to tire late. He may need a change in tactics and/or a dry track to change his fortune. Watch the Replay.

It's the Summer of Fun

The turf was firm, and only the AEs and the MTO were left out. Tap Twenty One (Tapit - Twenty One A. C. by Deputy Minister) was the tepid favorite, Flash Forward (Curlin - Magical Flash by Miswaki) was 16-1. She made a decent first appearance. I was liking Flashy Gal (Smart Strike - Oneofacat by Deputy Minister), and thought Worthwhilepursuit (Harlan's Holiday - My Canada by With Approval) looked like she was going to the lead. Wave Theory (Smart Strike - Glimmering (IRE) by Sadler's Wells) broke on top, but she was quickly overtaken by Worthwhilepursuit, who set the early pace. Summer of Fun (Include - Royal Innocence by Royal Anthem), Cloture (Political Force - Impressionism by Broad Brush), and Wave Theory were chasing the leader. Flash Forward was in mid-pack on the outside. Summer of Fun made the first move on the pacesetter. She moved even with Worthwhilepursuit, and then rolled on by to clear the field by several lengths. But, the race wasn't over yet, Wave Theory set after her, along with Flashy Gal, who had made a sustained rally from the back of the pack. Wave Theory made it close, but Summer of Fun held her off by a neck for the victory. It was a couple of lengths back to Flashy Gal in third, with Scat Scan (Scat Daddy - Cottage Flower by Pentelicus) taking fourth. Flash Forward tired after her wide run, finishing 9th. Miso Bad Winning Good

All ten fillies ran on the Tapeta. Debuting Hey Judy (Wildcat Heir - Slightly Wicked by Jules) was favored. Moonshot Monkey (The Green Monkey - Moonstriker by Smart Strike) was 12-1. Perfect Wink (Gimmeawink - Perfect Find by Indian Charlie) caught my eye in the post parade, and Angel in Waiting (Devil His Due - Thanks to Frank by Smoke Glacken) peaked my interest a bit. Moonshot Monkey is fairly striking, having inherited her sire's big blaze. Sunlit City (City Zip - Atlantic Storm by Stormy Atlantic) went to the front, chased by Miso Bad (Irish Road - Miso Pretty by Forest Wildcat). Hey Judy and Moonshot Monkey were not far off. Sunlit City opened up a little on the field, as Ms. Judy (Divine Park - Aya by Quiet American) moved into contention. Miso Bad reeled Sunlit City in late, and got her neck in front for the win. Perfect Wink was really closing stoutly late to claim third, with Angel in Waiting in fourth. Moonshot Monkey weakened after her early action, finishing 9th. Watch the Replay.

Pat's Back in the Winner's Circle

Sheza Dish (Majestic Warrior - Kaygee Ess Free by Lemon Drop Kid) was scratched, leaving 9 fillies on the Polytrack. Lady Katfish (Exchange Rate - Touchallthebases by Grand Slam) was favored, and Sassy Brunette (Big Brown - Turkappeal by Turkoman) was almost 23-1. However, she did take a little early money. Lady Katfish looked nice, but I was really liking Pat's Back (Put It Back - Pat's Sister by Defrere). Sassy Brunette looked good, but I thought she might like to go farther. Rosies Ready (Ready's Image - Bound to Blush by Boundary) broke best, but she soon had company. Pat's Back went by to set the pace, with Lady Katfish, Book Club (Harlan's Holiday - Many Colours by Broad Brush), and Rosies Ready up close. Sassy Brunette had a good position early, but then was shuffled to the back. Pat's Back put some distance on the field. Ondine (Medaglia d'Oro - Arrow in Flight by Forest Wildcat) emerged from the pack to reduce the leading margin, but she couldn not catch Pat's Back, who claimed the win by 2 1/2 lengths. Ondine outfinished Rosies Ready for second, with Book Club and Revive Me (Kafwain - Silent Fusaichi by Fusaichi Pegasus) in 4th and 5th. Sassy Brunette finished 9th (last) after her traffic issues. Throw this one out and hope for more distance next time. Watch the Replay.
