News and Notes
Mohawk Lane (Henrythenavigator - Crystal Crossing (IRE) by Royal Academy) was scratched at the Curragh. That race was decided by a photo, as Karamaya (Invincible Spirit (IRE) - Karawana (IRE) by King's Best) just got her nose in front of Gathering Power (Kyllachy (GB) - Nutkin (GB) by Act One (GB)) at the wire, with Cocktail Hour (Notnowcato (GB) - Out of Thanks (IRE) by Sadler's Wells) third.
An impressive debut by 2-year-old filly Sign (Pulpit - Cross by Mighty) in the 2nd at Saratoga, as she crossed the line 11 3/4 lengths in front. Sign is the second foal out of stakes winner Cross, who earned $126,207. Cross's first foal is the winner Thwart. Cross is a full sister to one winner, and a half sister to 3 winners, including grade III winner Lattice, who earned $346,883. Watch the Replay.

Luck for the Lady
The track was fast, and all nine fillies ran. Hannah's Journey (Harlan's Holiday - Silent Circle by Indian Charlie) was favored. Lady of Luck (Curlin - Lunarlady by Yes It's True) and Fairness (Curlin - No Fair by War Chant) were both given a chance, with Lady of Luck at 7-1, and Fairness at 9-1. Give Her Space (Divine Park - Amber Room by Tactical Cat) was living up to her name in the paddock, acting up a bit. Lady of Luck made a favorable first impression, and Fairness looked good on the track. I was also liking Ocean Park (Divine Park - Ocean Sound by Pulpit). Fairness was slow to get out of the gate, and trailed the field. Distant Memories (Wildcat Heir - Lanzada's Sonata by Lord Carson) went to the front, chased by Give Her Space and Ocean Park. Lady of Luck was in 4th early. Distant Memories was running freely on the front, several lengths clear. But, as they turned into the stretch, she began to come back to the field. Give Her Space hit the front, but Lady of Luck was moving on the outside. She rolled on by for a 2 1/2 length win. Give Her Space held second over Ocean Park, and there was a 3 length break back to favorite Hannah's Journey. Fairness never really got going, trailing throughout. Lady of Luck is the 6th winner for Curlin. Watch the Replay.

A Lovely Win
There were no scratches. Lovely Daughter (Big Brown - Bobbie Use by Not For Love) was the heavy favorite, and she looked the part. First-timer Lana Lang (Good Journey - Kitty Galore by Mountain Cat) dumped her rider in the prelims, and took off, but she didn't get far. Lil Barbie Doodle (Pomeroy - Powerful Two Punch by Two Punch) and Surelylu's Andante (Cindago - Reregister by Awesome Again) went for the lead, dueling early. Peppery (Peppered Cat - Prochonic by Tychonic (GB)) emerged from the pack to challenge the leading pair, and New Haven Line (Belgravia - Cold Blooded by Tiger Ridge) was also making a run. Lovely Daughter was biding her time on the inside. The hole opened up for her, and she sailed through. Lovely Daughter pulled away from the field, winning by an easy 4 lengths. New Haven Line took second over Honest Desire (Quiet American - Like Josie Wells by Skip Away), and there was a gap back to the others, who were led by Moonray (Marino Marini - Mistical One by High Brite). Lovely Daughter is winner number 6 for Big Brown. Watch the Replay.

Wishing for a Win
Only the AEs were left out. Another Flashback (Curlin - Flashy by Wild Again) was favored, but Sacred Delight (Mutakddim - Barbara O'Brien by Eltish) also received a generous amount of attention from the bettors. She looked nice in the paddock. Roust 'Em Bertie (Bertrando - Rousing Again by Awesome Again) was a little keyed up. Another Flashback warmed up nicely. Blazing Dancer (Tribal Rule - Mariah's Dancer by Bienamado) was off slowly, and Sacred Delight was squeezed at the start. There was a bit of a scramble for the lead, Wink and Wish (Tribal Rule - Amapola's Wish by Cozzene) got through to grab it. Up close were Van Dien Avenue (In Excess (IRE) - Lunge by Western Fame), Lady Delaney (Swiss Yodeler - Armed N Dangerous by Slewdledo), and Doinghardtimeagain (Ministers Wild Cat - Silver Hawk Lady by Conquistador Cielo). Another Flashback was in a good position, about mid-pack. Wink and Wish continued to lead, chased by Doinghardtimeagain. Another Flashback was starting to make up some ground, and Sacred Delight was also getting involved. Wink and Wish held them all off throughout, winning by 1/2 length. Doinghardtimeagain just saved second by a neck over closing Another Flashback and Sacred Delight, who were separated by just a nose in 3rd and 4th. Both of those fillies look promising for the future. Watch the Replay.
