Wasted At Midnight (Midnight Lute - Wasted Wisdom by Gold Fever) finished 8th (last) in the 7 furlong Del Mar Debutante Stakes (gr. I) at Del Mar. She broke better this time, but was rank early and didn't have much left late. I think it's back to the maiden ranks for her. The race turned out to be a thriller, as favorite Executiveprivilege (First Samurai - Refugee by Unaccounted For) just got up to defeat Beholder (Henny Hughes - Leslie's Lady by Tricky Creek) by a nose. Interestingly in Beholder's maiden win, she defeated Kinz Funky Monkey. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Del Mar Debutante here.

Number One Monkey is Funky

Renee's Queen (After Market - Mighty Renee by Maria's Mon) was scratched. It looks like she'll run in the Oak Tree Juvenile Fillies Turf Stakes on September 3 instead. Imwiththeblonde (Montbrook - Silent Serenade by Blare of Trumpets) was the heavy favorite. Kinz Funky Monkey (The Green Monkey - Pretty Ready by More Than Ready) was 7-1, despite hitting the board in her first two starts. She looked calm in the paddock. I was hoping that she would preserve some of her energy this time. First timers Fiftyshadesofhay (Pulpit - Quiet Kim by Real Quiet) and Wednesday (Medaglia d'Oro - Chandelle by Crafty Prospector) both made good impressions. Kinz Funky Monkey warmed up nicely, and Wednesday caught my eye on the track. Rhodium (Flashy Bull - Rockin On by Swiss Yodeler) stumbled at the start. Imwiththeblonde and Kinz Funky Monkey went for the lead. Imwiththeblonde grabbed it, and Kinz Funky Monkey assumed a pressing position. Majestic Jewel (Cindago - Jewel of the Night by Giant's Causeway) and a recovered Rhodium were also up close. Kinz Funky Monkey continued to press Imwiththeblonde, as they separated from the others. Kinz Funky Monkey drifted out a bit on the turn, but was righted, and went on by Imwiththeblonde. She had no time to rest, however, as Wednesday was coming with a powerful closing kick. But, Kinz Funky Monkey kept in front, taking it by a neck. Imwiththeblonde was back in third, and Fiftyshadesofhay made up ground to be fourth. Kinz Funky Monkey, who now has one win, one second, one third, and earnings of $64,400 in three starts, is the first winner for The Green Monkey. Watch the Replay.

Hooray! The Green Monkey's daughter has now done something her $16,000,000 sire was never able to do: Win a race!

Bravo Kinz Funky Monkey!  I hope The Green Monkey's legacy will be through his foals.  Hopefully, real good mares, as well as Pretty Ready will be booked to him in the future.

Don't diss The Green Monkey. I loved watching him race about 2 or 3 years ago. Suddenly i didn't see him listed anymore. I worried terribly about what might have happened to him. I thought the worse. Never knowing, i might add, that he was a 16 million dollar purchase. Yesterday when Kinz Funky Monkey ran and won and i heard who her sire was, i was elated. And then she won, pure Afternoon Delight!

And Stellar Jayne my sentiments exactly. I hope his legacy overpowers his performance on the tracks. The great genes have to show up someplace.
