Thunder Calls Preponderate

The race was taken off the turf, and run at a mile on the sloppy main track. Piano Man Ted (Pomeroy - Darian Skye by Dance Master) and El Tuscano (Forestry - Bella Bella Bella by Soft Gold (BRZ)) were scratched. Preponderate (Big Brown - Santaria by Star de Naskra) was 3-5 at one point in the wagering, but drifted up to 5-2. The favorite at post time was stake-placed C D Gold (Gottcha Gold - C D Player by Montbrook). He looked good on the track. Preponderate made a good impression, and longshot first-timer Van Neumann (Pulpit - Boozin' Susan by French Deputy) was catching my eye. Il Volo (North Light (IRE) - Ida Treat by Conquistador Cielo) was off slowly and trailed. Artie Ocean (Artie Schiller - Ocean Ridge by Storm Bird) cleared the pack from the outside to set the pace, with C D Gold and Thunder Calls (Bernstein - Mille Feville by Saint Ballado) after him. Preponderate had a good mid-pack spot early. C D Gold and Thunder Calls both went by Artie Ocean, who began to fade, and Preponderate was getting closer. Thunder Calls and C D Gold went head-to-head for awhile, but then Thunder Calls pulled away for a 1 3/4 length win. Preponderate finished well to claim second over C D Gold. There was a break of more than 2 back to Chile Dude (Pure Prize - Albany House by Gulch) in fourth. Watch the Replay.

Winning on a Street of Gold

The track was muddy, but In Bloom (Discreet Cat - Granny's Pride by Broad Brush) was the only scratch. Justice Judy (Lawyer Ron - Fly Me Home by Fusaichi Pegasus) took the early money, but Up for Grabs (First Samurai - Love Always by Saint Ballado) was favored at post time. Liberated (Curlin - Lady Melesi by Colonial Affair) was 11-1. I was liking Golden B. J. (Bob and John - Golden Voice by Stravinsky) in the paddock, and Dig (Brother Derek - Rich Citizen by Proud Citizen) had some spunk. Liberated made a favorable impression, but I thought she might need more ground. Hey Good Lookin' called the fillies to the post, and I had to agree that this was one fine looking group of fillies. Dig looked like a runner, and Liberated was looking serious out there. I also liked both of the Street Sense fillies, Street of Gold (Street Sense - Harriett Lane by Giant's Causeway) and Defoe Street (Street Sense - Kris Pit by Kris S.). Liberated was off slowly, spotting the rest a couple of lengths. Justice Judy went to the lead, with Street of Gold joining her from the inside. Street of Gold let Justice Judy go by, however, as Jennys Royalpurple (Bluegrass Cat - Bayou Bride by Orientate) moved into second. Dig was up close as well. Justice Judy continued to lead, as Liberated started making up ground. She made a menacing move on the outside, but stalled a bit, and it was Street of Gold, who came between fillies to get by Justice Judy for the win. Justice Judy was a clear second over Liberated, who was well clear of the rest, led by Gigglin' Gal (Consolidator - Humorous Gal by Distorted Humor). A very nice win for Street of Gold, but also good performaces from Justice Judy, and Liberated. I wouldn't be surprised if several of the fillies in this race go on to bigger things. Frontier Days are Here

Romaflame (Burning Roma - Tri Some Irish by Irish Sur) was scratched, leaving 8 on the Polytrack. The bettors had a little trouble deciding on a favorite. Get Me a Cocktail (Big Brown - Impressive Attire by Seeking the Gold), Heart to Me (El Nino - Post Marked by Stop the Music), and Salutethehero (Salute the Sarge - Mary Carolyn by Rhythm) all took turns in that role, with the latter filly getting the nod at post time. Get Me a Cocktail looked ready for action, and I was liking Salutethehero and Huntgoddess (Ben Bulben - Sweet Artemis by Conquistador Cielo) on the track. Frontier Days (Wagon Limit - Cheyann Uprising by Texas Glitter) broke on top, but was passed by Salutethehero and Get Me a Cocktail. Chicago Ruhls (Chicago Six - Sweet Ruhl by Ruhlmann) was forced in at the start and trailed, and Huntgoddess was compromised by Get Me a Cocktail. Up front, Get Me a Cocktail began to retreat, as Salutethegoddess continued to lead. Frontier Days continued to fight on, and came back on the rail to get the victory by 3/4 length at 24-1. Salutethehero was three lengths in front of Huntgoddess and Spring Formal (Stormy Atlantic - Life's a Dance by Gone West), who finished a nose apart in third and fourth. Get Me a Cocktail checked in seventh after her early involvement. Watch the Replay.
