One Fast Monkey

Cosmic Flight (Concerto - Cosmic Light by Wheaton) and Rontos' Code (Omega Code - Gray Trick by Favorite Trick) were scratched, and the track was fast. Chongo Verdi (The Green Monkey - Tiz Spanish by Tiznow) was the overwelming favorite. Chongo Verdi and Perfect Solo (Concerto - Perfect Swain by Swain (IRE)) were off best. Also in the mix early were Puty Boy (Put It Back - Way Pretty by Tabasco Cat) and Put It in the Sky (Put It Back - Atlantic Sky by Stormy Atlantic). It was Chongo Verdi who grabbed the lead. Puty Boy, Perfect Solo, and Put It in the Sky kept in contact for awhile, but then, Chongo Verdi left them all behind. He moved farther and farther ahead of the others, crossing the line 12 3/4 lengths in front. Exclusive Force (Exclusive Quality - Tonight's All Mine by Carnivalay) came on to get second and Puty Boy held third. Completing the field were Put It in the Sky and Perfect Solo. Exclusive Force was claimed out of the race. Chongo Verdi is the second winner for The Green Monkey. Watch the Replay.

A Flashy Gal

Jonata (Proud Citizen - Romp and Stomp by Olympio) was scratched, as well as the MTOs, as the race was run on the yielding turf. Flashy Gal (Smart Strike - Oneofacat by Deputy Minister) was favored, and Myperfectvalentine (Curlin - Netherland (ARG) by Roy) was 27-1. Coarsegold (Giant's Causeway - Cool Spell by Grand Slam) was a little reluctant to load. Judy G (First Samurai - Miracle Moment by Chester House) sprang out of the gate first, but she was joined and passed by Ruthie Blue Eyes (Stormy Atlantic - Halo America by Waquoit). Just off of these was Flashy Gal. Ruthie Blue Eyes continued to show the way, with Judy G, Coarsegold, and Flashy Gal chasing. Flashy Gal and Coarsegold moved as a team on the turn, and drew even with Ruthie Blue Eyes. Also making up ground was Zadina (Malibu Moon - Royal Cheer by Royal Anthem). Coarsegold took a short lead, but she couldn't hold off Flashy Gal, who rolled on by and won by 1 1/2 lengths. Zadina came on to pick up second, with Coarsegold holding third over Ruthie Blue Eyes. Myperfectvalentine didn't have much impact, finishing 8th. Watch the Replay.

Pretty interesting that The Green Monkey has progeny earnings that are already 9 times what he made on the track. Maybe the ability skipped a generation or maybe like Nicanor he had anxiety issues. He certainly is a fine looking horse (The Green Monkey)  I think it would be devine retribution if he sired a classic winner. Lord knows it would make the Coolmore and Hartley DeRenzo folks happy. Chongo Verdi looked by far the best in his race.

Chongo Verdi was impressive - I hope they don't put him in another claiming race. The stud manager for The Green Monkey may want to think about offering a free season to Tiznow mares to bump his career up.
