Silver Strikes

All 12 ran on the Polytrack. Worthwhilepursuit (Harlan's Holiday - My Canada by With Approval) was favored. Liberated (Curlin - Lady Melesi by Colonial Affair) was 3-1, and Miss Brown Sugar (Big Brown - Gata Bella by Storm Cat) was almost 9-1. Liberated looked good leaving the paddock. I was liking Kimberly Jean (More Than Ready - Grey Song by Unbridled's Song) on the track, and Miss Brown Sugar made a favorable impression. I thought I Jus Wana Hav Fun (Private Vow - If It's Meant to B by David) looked like she might want some distance. Ebbycalvin Laloosh (Candy Ride (ARG) - Proposed by Benchmark) got a nudge in the gate. Wine Glow (Tiznow - Cool Storm by Storm Cat) broke on top, but I Jus Wana Hav Fun went by to set the pace. She had a posse of pursuers including Worthwhilepursuit, Wine Glow, Liberated, Emotional Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Silent Emotion by Ghazi), and Flashy Gray (Flashy Bull - Pleasure Cat by Cat's Career). Liberated emerged from this pack to go after I Jus Wana Hav Fun, and caught her after they came out of the turn. But, Emotional Kitten was right there too, and she went by Liberated. Coming on the outside were the pair of Flashy Gray and Silver Strike (First Defence - Adam's Time by Gilded Time). They went by Liberated and Emotional Kitten as a team. At the wire, it was Silver Strike getting the win by a head over Flashy Gray. Liberated was game, outfighting Emotional Kitten to take third. Gaining 5th and 6th late were Kimberly Jean and Miss Brown Sugar. Silver Strike is the first North American winner for First Defence, and his second winner overall. First Defence's other winner is group III winner Dundonnell. Watch the Replay.
