Amerigo Vespucci Navigates a Win

Keep Momma Happy (Scipion - Tejano Sea by Sea of Secrets) was scratched, since he won the Maryland Million Nursery Stakes on October 6. Also scratched was Mountain Bird Song (Birdstone - Grand Slalom by Broad Brush). The track was fast. Amerigo Vespucci (Henrythenavigator - Senza Paura by Fly Till Dawn) was the 2-1 favorite at post time. But, Indian Bucks (Indian Charlie - In the Green by Mt. Livermore), Hard Enough (Hard Spun - Grecian Wings by Mr. Greeley), and Peeds in a Pod (Lion Heart - Endorse by Two Punch) also took a lot of money. There was a bit of a scramble for the early lead, with Peeds in a Pod grabbing it. His closest pursuers were Hurler (Purge - Soft Science by Not For Love) and Hard Enough. It was a pretty tight pack, apart from Gentle as a Breeze (Wilko - Savoury Soup by Alphabet Soup), who trailed by a bunch. Peeds in a Pod continued to show the way, as Amerigo Vespucci began to move on the outside. He was lugging out a bit, running on his wrong lead, but he motored on by the pacesetter to win by 2 lengths. Peeds in a Pod held second over Indian Bucks, with Hard Enough in fourth, followed by Hurler and Gentle as a Breeze. Amerigo Vespucci, a winner on Columbus Day, is the first North American winner for Henrythenavigator, and his 11th winner overall. Watch the Replay.

The Indian Too Much for Dyker

All six ran on the wet fast track. A. P. Indian (Indian Charlie - Ender's Sister by A. P. Indy) was favored. Set to Go (Sky Mesa - Swift Girl by Unbridled) at 2-1, and Dyker Beach (Curlin - Favorite Feather by Capote) at 3-1, were given some respect. Set to Go was fractious in the gate. A. P. Indian outbroke the field, but Ball One (Silver Train - Crown You by Two Punch) and He's a Gman (Giacomo - Goodsprings by Wekiva Springs) set after him. Ball One took a short lead over the favorite, but A. P. Indian kept his rail position. As they went into the turn, A. P. Indian moved back in front. Ball One was still there, and Set to Go moved into third. Dyker Beach, who was off a little slowly, was starting to show some interest. A. P. Indy began to draw away from the others, and he came home 6 lengths in front. Dyker Beach was moving well late to snag second from Set to Go by a nose. They were followed by Ball One, Cooking Up a Storm (Pure Prize - Race With Grace by Rahy), and He's a Gman. Impressive debut for A. P. Indian, but also a nice first start for Dyker Beach. Julesco has Hope for Tomorrow

The race was taken off of the turf and run at 7 furlongs on the good main track. Pink Vodka (Performing Magic - Spicy Cocktail by Slew Gin Fizz), Imanativenewyorker (Harlan's Holiday - First Impression by Mr. Greeley), and Princess Note (Read the Footnotes - Princess Cavanagh by Jacques Who) were scratched. MTO entrant Julesco (Noble Causeway - Bid of Genius by Beau Genius) was favored. Curlin N Twirlin (Curlin - Bluff for Bluff by Pine Bluff) was 4-1. She made a favorable pre-race impression. I was liking Uncaged Heart (Lion Heart - Aldavali by City Zip) a bit, and she took the early lead, pressed by Sweet Sway (Freud - Sweet Tzipora by Wheaton). Also up close were Julesco, Hope for Tomorrow (Repent - Hope of Nations by Two Punch), and Curlin N Twirlin, who had a nice rail spot. Uncaged Heart and Sweet Sway continued 1-2, but Julesco was starting to get going. Curlin N Twirlin was still sticking to her rail spot. Julesco eased to the lead coming out of the turn, and rolled home, winning by 6 3/4 lengths. Hope for Tomorrow and Curlin N Twirlin went by Uncaged Heart to finish 2nd and 3rd, as Uncaged Heart settled for fourth. Watch the Replay.

The Prince Takes the Crown

Our Three Graces (Red Clubs (IRE) - Villa Nova (IRE) by Petardia (GB)) was a non runner. Arctic Admiral (Verglas (IRE) - Fag End (IRE) by Treasure Kay (GB)) was favored, and Santo Prince (Henrythenavigator - Sally Wood by Woodman) was 9-1. The ground was heavy. There were large divots of sod flying up with each horse stride. The start was even. They were a pretty tight group in the early going, with only Stupenda (Misu Bond (IRE) - Opera Babe by Kahyasi (IRE)) separated at the back. Soon, however, Scepticism (Elusive Quality - Never Is a Promise by Capote), Mowhoob (Medicean (GB) - Pappas Ruby by Red Ransom), and Perseverent Pete (Johannesburg - Indian Halloween by Sunday Break (JPN) broke away from the others. Santo Prince had a nice spot on the rail just behind this trio. Mowhoob took the lead, as Fair Comment (Tamayuz (GB) - Cliche (IRE) by Diktat (GB)) began to get involved. Mowhoob continued on top, as Santo Prince eased away from the rail to go after him. He caught that opponent, and went on by for a 1/2 length win. There was a 5 length gap back to Scepticism in third, followed by Perseverent Pete, and Fair Comment. Santo Prince is winner number 12 for Henrythenavigator. Interesting that he won on a heavy turf, as the word was the Henrythenavigators needed firm ground.
