Infanta Branca Seeking Star Appeal

News and Notes

Just two days after his first North American winner, Amerigo Vespucci, won at Laurel, it was announced that Henrythenavigator will standing at Coolmore Stud in Ireland in 2013. It is probably for the best, since must of his offspring have run in Europe.

Two-year-old filly Miss Patricia (Indian Charlie - Everyday Angel by Forestry) had a bit of an adventure after breaking her maiden in her debut in race 4 at Belmont Park on October 11, as she jumped a shadow after the wire. Watch the Replay.

Gentleman Battened the Hatches and Played to Win

Kitten's Gift (Kitten's Joy - Philanthropy Lady by Desert Style (IRE)), part of an entry with Gentleman's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Imagistic by Deputy Minister), was scratched. The turf was firm. Herecomethehawks (Mr. Greeley - Grat by A. P. Indy) was the early choice, but Cairo Six (Stormy Atlantic - Tortuga Lady by Thunder Gulch) was the lukewarm choice at post time. Order of Magnitude (Henrythenavigator - Jewel Princess by Key to the Mint) was almost 30-1. He made a good first impression. Cairo Six was full of himself, really on his toes. Gentleman's Kitten looked ready for action. I was liking Batten the Hatches (Stormy Atlantic - Masada by Pleasant Tap) on the track. Indygo Prince (Indygo Shiner - Polkadot Princess by Tejano) looked like a sprinter to me. Just Play (Friends Lake - Yes Beth by Deputy Commander) wasn't particularly happy going into the gate. The start was good for everyone except Order of Magnitude, who came out a beat slow and then had to check. More than half the field went for the lead. Guess My Name (Giant's Causeway - Shades of Grace by Seeking the Gold) attempted to clear, but was hampered by his outside post. When the dust settled, it was Cairo Six and Gentleman's Kitten dueling up front, with Guess My Name and Herecomethehawks tracking. Batten the Hatches began to make up ground on the inside. Gentleman's Kitten and Cairo Six continued 1-2, with Batten the Hatches getting closer. Also near the lead were Herecomethehawks and Sayler's Creek (Bernstein - Postulant by Pulpit). Batten the Hatches moved off the rail to make a run at the leader. He had a brief lead, but Gentleman's Kitten fought back, regained the lead, and passed the line a length in front. Just Play came on to get third, as Sayler's Creek checked in in fourth, and Cairo Six tired to 5th. Order of Magnitude never overcame his difficult start, finishing 11th. Watch the Replay.

Ferjaan Holds Off Not Rigg

Admirals Walk (Tagula (IRE) - Very Race by Sri Pekam) and Sibya (Exceed And Excel (AUS) - Abunai (GB) by Pivotal (GB)) were non runners. Ferjaan (Oasis Dream (GB) - Bahja by Seeking the Gold) was favored. Not Rigg (Henrythenavigator - St. Helens Shadow by Septieme Ciel) was 3-1. The going on the All-Weather track was standard as usual. The start was conducted with just a little bumping. Ferjaan went to the lead. His closest pursuer was Marsh Dragon (Beat Hollow (GB) - Qilin (IRE) by Second Set (IRE)). The next pair were Katy Spirit (Invincible Spirit (IRE) - Katy Guest (IRE) by Be My Guest) and Not Rigg. The top two ran as a team for a time, but then Marsh Dragon began to lose some ground, as Katy Spirit got closer. Ferjaan continued to hold the lead. The only one left with a chance to defeat him was Not Rigg. He made a good try at it, but came up 3/4 lengths short at the line. Watcheroftheskies (Dutch Art (GB) - Red Heaven (GB) by Benny the Dip) led the rest of the pack, more than 4 lengths behind the top two. Watch the Replay.
