Belle of the Race

Rate Change (Exchange Rate - Commercialize by Robyn Dancer) was scratched, leaving 11, including the entry of Rosie Temper (Bernstein - Shy Lil by Lil's Lad) and Ultimate Temper (Successful Appeal - Star Attraction by Storm Cat). Fanfare (Curlin - Magical Ride by Storm Cat) was favored, and looked very nice at the paddock. Smittenwithkitten (Kitten's Joy - Blush by Menifee) looked ready to rumble. I was liking Belle Chaussee (Giant's Causeway - Parisian Affair by Mr. Greeley) and Snowfinch (Birdstone - Tale of the Queen by Tale of the Cat) on the track. But, this was a nice looking group. The start was decent. Rosie Temper, With Prejudice (With Distinction - Successful Verdict by Successful Appeal), and Boss Barney's Babe (Street Boss - Jezebella by Wild Again) mixed it up early. Rosie Temper and With Prejudice went on, with Canticle (Unbridled's Song - Palais Versailles by Pulpit) just behind, as Fanfare began to get closer. With Prejudice got to the front, but Fanfare wore her down and took a short lead. But, she had no answer for Belle Chaussee, who rolled on by for a 4 1/4 length win. Fanfare was well clear in second, and Snowfinch sneaked into the mix to take third by a nose over Canticle. Watch the Replay.

Reporting a Star

The turf was yielding, but everyone stayed in the main field, so the AEs were left out. Callmeback (Put It Back - Herecomesacat by Storm Creek) and debuting Reporting Star (Circular Quay - Classic Beauty by Sword Dance (IRE)) vied early for favoritism, but Chile Dude (Pure Prize - Albany House by Gulch) was the choice at post time. Preponderate (Big Brown - Santaria by Star de Naskra) started at 15-1, but was down to 7-1 when they ran. He looked decent on the track. I was liking first-timer Mizzen the Cookies (Mizzen Mast - Chocolate Chip by Orientate) a bit on the track. Camellia Grill (Flower Alley - Admirer by Private Terms), who was also making his first start, looked like a handful. Mizzen the Cookies was slow to start, and Preponderate had to steady after beginning. Callmeback and Reporting Star went for the lead. The latter wanted to go, but was kept to a pressing position. No Calcetines (Metfield - Twirladance by Ricther Scale) was up with the top 2 early, but then dropped back a bit. Preponderate had a good spot in 6th on the outside. Reporting Star moved even as they entered the stretch, and then was gone, romping by 7 1/2 lengths. No Calcetines nipped Callmeback by a head for second, and Mizzen the Cookies made steady progress to finish fourth. Preponderate didn't show much after steadying early, finishing 7th. I would like to see her on firm turf, however, before making any first evaluation of her career. Reporting Star is the 7th winner for Circular Quay. Watch the Replay.

Harlan's Pure Win

The track was sloppy, but all 7 ran. Harlan's Pure (Harlan's Holiday - Lantern Glow by Mineshaft) was the overwhelming favorite. Millionaire Monkey (The Green Monkey - Polka Dot Miss by Pentelicus) was 7-1. First-timer Anduril (Aragorn (IRE) - Wait 'til Midnight by Judge T C) looked good on the track, but so did the favorite. Millionaire Monkey was off to a good start, but Entusiasmo (B L's Appeal - C. R. Pace by Siberian Express) sped by everyone to take the lead by several lengths. Runaway Glory (Keyed Entry - Dependability by Runaway Groom) was his closest pursuer, with Anduril in third. Harlan's Pure began to make up ground on the outside. Anduril went by Entusiasmo, but Harlan's Pure was coming. He blew by Anduril, and splashed to an easy win. Anduril was second by open lengths, with Runaway Glory getting third over Cuello Blanco, followed by El Ranchista (Utopia (JPN) - Whispered Call by Phone Trick) and Millionaire Monkey, with Entusiasmo tiring to last.

OMG Chris, I was so impressed with Reporting Star's win, but highly regret my oversight, big oversight, I quickly looked at the race at beginning of pick-6, was alive in last leg this race with only Preponderate and Chile Dude! Oh well, my betting and knowledge goof, big time....will be following this guy, glad CQ has a turf winner...I like that. Don
