Wittgenstein Philosophizes a Win
The turf was firm, and all 10 fillies ran. Irish Presence (Midnight Lute - Proper Form by Deputy Minister) was made the favorite at 2-1. I was hoping that a mile would be far enough for her to stretch her long legs. Villano (Rock Hard Ten - Campagnarde (ARG) by Oak Dancer (GB)) caught my eye. Sharp Bella (Sharp Humor - Bella Volare by Flying Continental) got an equipment adjustment just before the load. She didn't seem especially happy about this. She came out running, however, going for the lead. Also going for the front was Villano, who recovered from a bit of a slow start. Irish Presence had a good spot mid-pack early. Sharp Bella continued to lead, pursued by Villano. The next pair were Wittgenstein (Shamardal - La Vita E Bella (IRE) by Definite Article (GB)) and Mine's Mistress (Mineshaft - Vegas Prospector by Crafty Prospector). The top two were all alone for a time, but then the pack began to close the gap. It was Wittgenstein making the first move, drawing even with Sharp Bella on the turn. Sharp Bella battled on, but eventually Wittgenstein got by for a 3/4 length win. Closing well was Catrageous (Tale of the Cat - Frozen Treat by Dynaformer), who grabbed second over a tired Sharp Bella. Irish Presence seemed poised to make a move, but weakened and finished 8th.
