It's Good to be Miss Brown

Hot Lap (Tale of the Cat - Littlebigthing by Unbridled's Song) was scratched, and the track was fast for the remaining 7. Getting Birdie (Birdstone - Accompanist by Fantastic Fellow) was the heavy favorite. I Am Miss Brown (Big Brown - Formal Miss by Formal Dinner) was 5-1, and Jias Curls (Curlin - Spectacular Day by Carson City) was 12-1. I Am Miss Brown was on her toes in the paddock, and Jias Curls also looked ready for action. They both looked good on the track, but I thought Jias Curls might be a little too keyed up. Daydream (Rockport Harbor - Dynabunny by Dynaformer) broke inward at the start, and lost most all chance, and Alli Leigh (Student Council - Allison P. by Unbridled) was not off to a very fast start. There was a bit of a tussle for the early lead. Getting Birdie had it briefly, but I Am Miss Brown went by to set the pace. Repentacious (Repent - The Classicshopper by Regal Classic) was just behind Getting Birdie in third, and Jias Curls had a nice spot in fourth on the outside. I Am Miss Brown continued to lead, but her followers were sticking close. Hot Chocolate Hit (Flatter - Hosanna Hit by Formal Gold) began to make up ground, joining the leading group. Jias Curls and Hot Chocolate Hit set off together to catch I Am Miss Brown. Jias Curls could not sustain her bid. She dropped back and eventually finished 5th. Hot Chocolate Hit continued after I Am Miss Brown. It looked like she would catch that filly, but I Am Miss Brown was tough. She regained some lost ground and held firm, winning by a neck. She didn't let Hot Chocolate Hit by in the gallop out either. It was more than three back to Repentacious in third, who was followed by Alli Leigh. I Am Miss Brown is winner number 11 for Big Brown. A Strong Response

Polaris (Henrythenavigator - Rushen Heat by Unusual Heat) was scratched, leaving 10 on the Polytrack. The public had a little trouble settling on a favorite, finally deciding on Kamchatka (Tale of the Cat - Saratoga Drive by Siphon (BRZ)). Big Sam (Big Brown - Sashay Away by Farma Way) was respected at 4-1. Debuting Bemata (Horse Greeley - Bema by Pulpit) was getting attention at 3-1. Big Sam looked good in the paddock, and I was also attracted to Tiz the Kid (Tiz Wonderful - Penny Arcade by Danzig). I liked Brink of War (Defer - Sunday Sport by Honour and Glory) in the warmup. Indygoflyer (Indygo Shiner - Jade Queen by Giant's Causeway) outbroke everyone, but Strong Response (State City - Swing the Cat (NZ) by Tale of the Cat) went by to set the pace. Indygoflyer and Brink of War assumed chasing positions. Big Sam was near the back early. Strong Response continued to show the way. There was a mob of horses chasing him. But, Strong Response had more and sprinted away. He crossed the line 5 lengths in front. Rupansu (Johannesburg - Sacred Sue by Holy Bull) and Bemata bested the others, finishing 2nd and 3rd. Big Sam made up some ground on the inside, before encountering traffic, stalling, and finishing 8th. It was kind of a strange race after he showed speed in his debut. Watch the Replay.

The Lone Dove Wins

The track was fast, and only the AEs were left out. Almost everyone took a turn at being favored, but at post time that honor went to Ambers Wildcat (Wildcat Heir - Open Market by Montbrook). Kiss My Monkey (The Green Monkey - Smoochem by Friendly Lover) was 9-1. Lone Dove (Teed Off - Dovetail by Dove Hunt) was a little edgy in the paddock. I thought that Two Minute Lick (Yonaguska - Juiced by Pikepass) looked interesting. Kiss My Monkey looked good on the track. Two Minute Lick hopped in the air at the start and trailed. John Louis' Blaze (Chief Three Sox - Kristys Mill by Sunny's Halo) and Victory On Ice (Yonaguska - Victory Affirmed by Victory Gallop) went for the lead. Du Bois (Smoke Glacken - Scholar by Orientate) was chasing this pair. Kiss My Monkey was off to a decent start, and began to move forward. Royal Mocha (Private Vow - Rockin' Roux by Friendly Lover) had to steady, losing ground. After a short while, John Louis' Blaze had had enough, but Victory On Ice continued on top. But, the closers were coming in the form of Big Boys in Town (Lydgate - Twinkling Rose by Chester House) and Lone Dove. Big Boys in Town hit the front, but he was green, and he couldn't hold off Lone Dove, who went on by for a 1/2 length win. Royal Mocha ran on for third, with Victory On Ice weakening to fourth. Kiss My Monkey tired after his early move, finishing 9th. Watch the Replay.
