Amerigo Vespucci (colt; Henrythenavigator - Senza Paura by Fly Till Dawn) recovered from a hop at the start, to finish 2nd in the 6 furlong James F. Lewis III Stakes at Laurel. He was no match, however, for winning favorite Whiskey Romeo (Forestry - Yoursmineours by Belong to Me), who strolled home 7 1/2 lengths in front. Watch the Replay.

Luck Holds

Only the AEs were left out, and the turf was firm. Miss Lucky Sevens (Big Brown - Fancy Clancy by Rahy) was favored, and she looked the part. Also getting play were Dido (Bernstein - Anyhow by Tiznow) and Bold Kitten (Kitten's Joy - I'll Do More by More Than Ready). Quite the Sis (Quiet American - Ole' Sis by Ole') stumbled at the start, losing rider Robby Albarado. Both horse and rider appeared to be unhurt. Souparion (Alphabet Soup - Arion by High Yield) went for the lead from the outside, with Miss Lucky Seven showing speed as well. Souparion was never able to clear Miss Lucky Sevens, who held the hedge position and eased into the lead. Dido moved into second, and Bold Kitten began to make up ground as well. Miss Lucky Sevens was still cruising, however, and she came home 2 1/2 lengths in front. Bold Kitten overtook Dido late for second, and Mizz Krizten (Mizzen Mast - Debora Ann by Belong to Me) grabbed fourth. Miss Lucky Sevens, who previously finished first on September 15 at Arlington Park in a race that was named a no-contest, is now officially a winner. Watch the Replay.

Good Value

All ten ran, and the track was fast. Value Trap (Value Plus - Beach of Bali by Holy Mountain) was favored, with Don of Dons (Tiz Wonderful - Donna's Doll by Pleasant Tap) also getting a lot of play. The Golden Monkey (The Green Monkey - Golden Anklet by Menifee) was 60-1. Value Trap, Rich Intentions (Untuttable - Design Appeal by Honour and Glory), and Don of Dons went for the lead. The Golden Monkey was near the back early. Value Trap took a clear lead, as Chrisandthecapper (First Samurai - Wini Jones by Seeking the Gold) moved into second, and Don of Dons began to lose ground. The Golden Monkey recovered from a poor start to pick up a few places. Value Trap continued to cruise on the lead, and crossed the line 6 lengths in front of Chrisanthecapper. It was close for third, with Trinni Heart (Lion Heart - Probing by Brocco) a neck better than World Traveler (Heatseeker (IRE) - It's Spooky by Silver Ghost). The Golden Monkey finished 5th, not a bad effort, especially considering his start. Watch the Replay.

Royal Barrister Delivers

Long Beach Logan (Game Plan - Belleslittlesister by Avenue of Flags) was scratched, and AE entrant The Cleaners (City Zip - Yesshesarocket by Yes It's True) got to run. The turf was firm. Real Heat (Unusual Heat - Chi Chi Nette by Ole') was the tepid 4-1 favorite, and Syndicated (Midnight Lute - Letithappencaptain by Captain Bodgit) was 34-1. I liked Say Ow (Langfuhr - Lacy Lady by Jeblar) and The Cleaners a bit in the prelims.  Anytime (Any Given Saturday - Drawing a Blank by El Prado (IRE)) and Aerial Artist (Kitten's Joy - Something Dixie by Dixie Union) battled early, with Derringer (Langfuhr - Broken Romance by Broken Vow) and Royal Barrister (Lawyer Ron - Queens Plaza by Forestry) just off the lead. The whole field was rather closely bunched. Royal Barrister came through on the inside to take the lead. He spurted away from the field and won by 1 1/4 lengths. Misdeed (Rock Hard Ten - Miss Dahlia by Strawberry Road (AUS)) ran well late to claim second, with Will True Up (Lawyer Ron - My Into Wishin by Outofthebox) and Say Ow 3rd and 4th. Syndicated was squeezed at the start, and never really got going, finishing 9th. Watch the Replay.
