Curlin Fillies on Display

News and Notes

Unless you are living under a rock, you probably already know that 3-year-old filly Eblouissante (Bernardini - Vertigineux by Kris S.), half sister to Zenyatta, broke her maiden by 4 lengths in her debut in race 4 at Hollywood Park. But, just in case, here is the Replay. Read more about her win here.

Irish Lute (filly; Midnight Lute - Shaniowa by Storm Boot) was a winner in the 8th at Churchill Downs, a 6 furlong Maiden Special Weight on the dirt. Watch the Replay. Irish Lute is the 9th winner for Midnight Lute. I apologize for not previewing this race, not sure how it slipped through.

Prince Curlin (Curlin - No Small Wonder by Capote) was scratched from the 5th at Aqueduct, a 6 furlong Maiden Claiming Race (Claiming Price $35,000). The Truth and K G (Successful Appeal - She's Roughin It by Forest Camp) overtook heavy favorite National Prayer (Songandaprayer - Senate Caucus by Siphon (BRZ)) and drew off to win by 8 1/2 lengths. Alysaro (With Distinction - Sarong by Alysheba) also got by National Prayer to take second. Watch the Replay.

A Strange Win

The Cushion Track was fast as usual, and only the AEs were scratched. Sassy Brunette (Big Brown - Turkappeal by Turkoman) was the 5-2 favorite. Deft Touch (Yes It's True - Elle Squared by Out of Place) and Strange Luck (Songandaprayer - Glitter Star by Glitterman) also took some play. I was a little partial to Lady Delaney (Swiss Yodeler - Armed N Dangerous by Slewdledo). The start was good for most, except Katy's Star (Kitalpha - Starstream by Awesome Again), who took a right turn from her outside post and trailed the field. Lady Delaney, Muna Jewels (Benchmark - Salah's Jewels by Bertrando), and Swiss in Paris (Swiss Yodeler - Paris Design by Beau Genius) were the first to flash speed, with Deft Touch just behind. Lady Delaney and Muna Jewels continued to battle. Strange Luck began to pick up horses on the outside. She went by the pacesetter, and kept going to register a 3 1/4 length win. Closing from nowhere was Katy's Star, who grabbed second, an impressive result after her adventure at the start. Lady Delaney just held off first-timer Warren's Chaser (Affirmative - Chase Sunny Broad by Broad Brush) for third. Sassy Brunette did not much impact on the race, finishing 7th. Watch the Replay.
