Stakes Entry

Mylute (colt; Midnight Lute - Stage Stop by Valid Expectations) trailed early in the Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes (gr. III), made a big move on the turn to get into second, but couldn't go by pacesetter Goldencents (Into Mischief - Golden Works by Banker's Gold). Favorite Bern Identity (Bernstein - Maddalena by Good and Tough) rolled by Mylute late, but he couldn't catch Goldencents either, as that one went on to post a 1 3/4 length win, becoming the first stakes winner for Into Mischief. Mylute had to settle for third, but he is now grade III stakes-placed. Overall, Mylute has run 6 times, with 1 win, 2 seconds, 2 thirds, and earnings of $189,095. Watch the Replay. Liberty Girl Gets the Fanfare

The track was fast. Excessiveness (Exchange Rate - Vicki Vallencourt by Regal Classic) and Snowfinch (Birdstone - Tale of the Queen by Tale of the Cat) were scratched from the main field. AE entrant Cora Mesa (Sky Mesa - Old Fashion Girl by Arch) drew into the race. Favoritism jumped around a bit, with Sanaaya (Smart Strike - Spun Sugar by Awesome Again) the slight choice at post time. Fanfare (Curlin - Magical Ride by Storm Cat) was given a good shot at 3-1. I was liking French Lick (Malibu Moon - Frio Town by Kerosene), as they moved to the track. This was a nice-looking bunch. Fanfare was getting plenty of air time in the prelims. Kimberly Jean (More Than Ready - Grey Song by Unbridled's Song) was squeezed at the start, the others were away well. Honor Bright (Pleasant Tap - Kaluka by Honor Grades) went to the front, chased by Fanfare. Grit and Grace (Tapit - High Heels by E Dubai) was up close as well. No one seemed to want to go very fast, as reflected in the splits of :24.33, :49.46, 1:15.07. As they moved into the turn, Sanaaya and Liberty Girl (A. P. Warrior - Champagne Glow by Saratoga Six) began to get involved. Fanfare took a short lead in the stretch, but Liberty Girl was right with her. The finished the last part of the race together, two bays with similar blazes, running together and hitting the line as a team. It came down to a bob of the nose, which went to Liberty Girl. Two and three-quarters lengths behind, it was just as close for third and fourth, with Cora Mesa outfinishing Kimberly Jean. Watch the Replay.

Lady Rosamond Steals the Hope

All twelve ran on the Cushion Track. Lady Rosamond (Keyed Entry - Dixie Image by Halo's Image) was favored. French Curls (Curlin - French Satin by French Deputy) was 7-1, and looked good on the track. I liked Iconic Spirit (Bernstein - Super Freaky by Smart Strike) a bit. French Curls got off to a good start. Lady Rosamond went to the lead, with Dawn's Charm (Hard Spun - Deb's Charm by Silver Charm) after her. Sweet Sense (Street Sense - Between the Clouds by Sky Classic) was just off these two. Lady Rosamond and Dawn's Charm continued to show the way, with Street Sense getting closer, and Lotsandlotsofhope (Tiznow - Hope Rises by Mr. Greeley) moving up the rail. Dawn's Charm dropped back in the stretch. Lotsandlotsofhope went after Lady Rosamond on the inside, and Sweet Sense attacked on the outside. These three crossed the wire together. Sweet Sense was clearly third, but the top 2 were hard to separate. The camera determined that Lady Rosamond got her nose just in front for the victory. Behind these three, Iconic Spirit closed well to pick up fourth. French Curls couldn't mount a rally, finishing 9th. Lady Rosamond is the 4th winner for Keyed Entry. Watch the Replay.

A Winning Ambush

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Magic Union (Dixie Union - Magic Peak by Pleasant Colony) was favored, and Jias Curls (Curlin - Spectacular Day by Carson City) was 11-1. She came out of the gate running and gunning for the lead. She grabbed it, chased by Magic Union and Hughes (Henny Hughes - Talkin to Delta by Diesis (GB)). Jias Curls continued on top, but she couldn't shake free from the pack. Hughes moved up to apply more pressure, and Born to Jazz (Student Council - Guard Dance by Fools Dance) also moved closer. She took a short lead, but Jias Curls was still hanging in there. Suddenly, Ambush Woman (Divine Park - Phu Cat by Tabasco Cat) on the outside, and Magic Union on the inside, overwhelmed Born to Jazz, with Ambush Woman getting her neck in front for the victory. Jias Curls did most of the dirty work, but had to settle for fourth. Watch the Replay.
