News and Notes

We are currently having a problem with Race Replays, but I have left the links in the blog, because it should be fixed soon.

I have a couple of days off next week, so I probably will not be posting another blog until Thursday, December 6.

December 1 Results

Stakes Results

Amerigo Vespucci (colt; Henrythenavigator - Senza Paura by Fly Till Dawn) once again finished second to Whiskey Romeo (Forestry - Yoursmineours by Belong to Me) in a stakes race. This time the margin was 2 1/4 lengths, as Whiskey Romeo overcame a stumble at the start to win the Marylander Stakes at Laurel. Watch the Replay. Amerigo Vespucci now has 2 wins and 2 seconds in 4 starts, with earnings of $84,460.

Lovely Daughter (filly; Big Brown - Bobbie Use by Not For Love) stumbled at the start of the Golden Gate Debutante Stakes, and never really recovered, finishing 6th (last). The winner was Marks Mine (Benchmark - Ermine by Capote), who led from start to finish. Watch the Replay.

A Well Heeled Win

Exchange Cat (Exchange Rate - Madagascat by Tale of the Cat) was scratched, and the track was fast. Endless Chatter (First Samurai - Orate by A.P. Indy) was favored, Sylvia T (Curlin - Brisquette by Unbridled's Song) was 8-1. She is a nice rangey chestnut. I thought 6 furlongs might be a little short for her. I was liking Garmentos Girl (Indian Charlie - Misgoldy by Miswaki) in the paddock. Well Heeled (Unbridled's Song - High Heeled Hope by Salt Lake) looked good on the track. Garmentos Girl got a shove into the gate. Switchboard (Bernardini - High Speed Access by Kingmambo) stumbled badly at the start, and bumped Rettalfa (Flatter - Bridge Edition by Editor's Note). Well Heeled went to the lead. Endless Chatter was briefly involved, but more sustained pursuit came from Garmentos Girl and Rettalfa. Sylvia T also began to make up some ground. Well Heeled continued to show the way. She seemed to getting tired late, but had enough left to hold of Garmentos Girl, who was strong at the finish. Rettalfa was third, and Sylvia T just held 4th over Secret Union (Dixie Union - Barney's Mistress by Dynaformer). Watch the Replay.

Laughing to the Wire

There were no scratches, and the turf was firm. Sea of Laughter (Distorted Humor - Sea of Showers by Seattle Slew) was favored, Rose of Tralee (Henrythenavigator - Di's Hope by Forest Wildcat) was 9-1. A couple of the fillies were looking skittish on the track, including E C's Favorite (English Channel - Marie J by Mr. Prospector). Miss Scout (Pleasant Tap - It's Over by Stop the Music) kept catching my eye, and Rose of Tralee looked decent. Eu Te Pego (Leroidesanimaux (BRZ) - Chatham Hall by Green Dancer) was off slowly. Rose of Tralee went to the front, but Ely Runner (Horse Greeley - Aces by Housebuster) was right with her, and favorite Sea of Laughter was not far off. She made her move after 6 furlongs, and hit the front. Rose of Tralee had had enough, and retreated through the field. She finished 10th (last). Coming on from the back of the pack was Eu Te Pego, and Don't Tell Lou (Guillaume (IRE) - Evrobi by Tabasco Cat) was coming to life as well. Sea of Laughter streaked home, winning it by 1 1/4 lengths. Don't Tell Lou fought off Eu Te Pego for second, as the latter filly had to settle for third. Watch the Replay.

Smokinindaboysroom Makes You a Winner

Twelve ran on the Polytrack. Firster Majestic Bay (Bernstein - Beautifulballerina by Nureyev) was favored. Smokinindaboysroom (First Defence - Heart of a Chief by Tabasco Cat) was also taking money. Senioritis (Big Brown - She's a Lively One by Lively One) was 45-1. Slewpy's Image (Ready's Image - Slewpy's Storm by Storm Creek) and Officer Griffin (Officer - First Attraction by Pancho Villa) dueled early, with Best Five (Harlan's Holiday - Mer de Glace by Unbridled) and Smokinindaboysroom just behind them. Slewpy's Image and Officer Griffin continued to battle for a time, but then Smokinindaboysroom came flying wide on the outside, and rolled on by for a 3 3/4 win. Majestic Bay, who had traffic issues, got free late for second, and Officer Griffin hung on for third. Senioritis was never much involved, finishing 9th. Smokinindaboysroom is the 8th winner for First Defence. Watch the Replay.

Gratian Causes a Disruption

Stressful Times (Iron Cat - Main Gain by Relaunch), Nina's Dragon (Tizbud - Just Lookn by Synastry), and Dunbar (Artie Schiller - Annapolitan by Runaway Groom) were scratched, leaving 6 on the Tapeta. Debuting Gratian (Candy Ride (ARG) - Sudden Departure by Demons Begone) was favored. Midnight Moves (Midnight Lute - Easy Pass by Easy Goer) was 10-1. Disruption (Street Boss - Disrupt by Deputy Minister) and Prayer for Da Bric (Songandaprayer - Forest Patch by Forestry) went for the lead. Disruption grabbed it, but Prayer for Da Bric was right with him. Favorite Gratian was watching this pair in third. Midnight Moves had a nice rail spot. As they entered the stretch, Disruption and Prayer for Da Bric brushed, and Prayer for Da Bric took a short lead, but he couldn't hold it, and Disruption regained the lead. But, he had no time to relax, because it was Gratian's time, and he got up for a 1/2 length win. Disruption was second, followed by North Pacific (Master Command - Quelle Surprise by Slew Gin Fizz), Light of My Life (Old Topper - Miami Margie by Shadeed), Prayer for Da Bric, and Midnight Moves.
