Ellsmere Island (filly; Midinight Lute - Water Music by Danzig) trailed in the Ontario Lassie Stakes at a mile and a sixteenth on the Polytrack at Woodbine, and was pulled up in the stretch. There were no scratches on the Cushion Track. French Curls (Curlin - French Satin by French Deputy) was favored, and Sassy Brunette (Big Brown - Turkappeal by Turkoman) was 26-1. She stumbled badly at the start. French Curls broke on top, but she was content to let several go by her. It was No Commitments (Horse Greeley - Summer Fling by Whiskey Wisdom) who set the early pace, with Kevin's Kool Kat (Decarchy - Trick a Cat by High Yield), Tiz Anna (Tiz Wonderful - Run Withthe Spirit by Lemon Drop Kid), and Bojour (Bob and John - Lisieux by Steady Growth) in pursuit. Kevin's Kool Kat came up the rail to take the lead, but French Curls was starting to move. She came rolling on the outside, to record a 1 1/4 length win. Kevin's Kook Kat held second over Tiz Anna. Sassy Brunette finished 5th after her poor start. French Curls was claimed out of the race, perhaps she'll step up in class next time out. Watch the Replay.
