Manando on Top of Curly

All five ran on the Cushion Track. Curly Top (Curlin - Top Notch Lady by Sultry Song) was favored, but Manando (Bluegrass Cat - Mesmerizing Lady by Unbridled's Song) also received plenty of attention from the bettors. Manando went to the front at the start. Silk Indian (Indian Charlie - French Silk by French Deputy) broke outwards, Penny Maker (Empire Maker - Talega by Devil's Bag) was slow to begin, and Curly Top came out of the gate a bit awkwardly. Manando maintained an easy lead, with Silk Indian and Persuasive Paul (Olmodavor - Witch of the Air by Lure) his nearest competition. Curly Top was a bit rank in the early stages. Curly Top made his move on the turn, claiming second and moving up to pressure the leader. But, Manando scampered away as they entered the stretch, and rolled across the line, 5 1/4 lengths in front. Curly Top fought off Persuasive Paul for second, with big gaps back to Penny Maker and Silk Indian in fourth and fifth. Watch the Replay.
