A Charming Win

All seven ran on the Cushion Track. Sweet Sense (Street Sense - Between the Clouds by Sky Classic) opened at 1-9, and went off at 4-5. Mezzanotte (Midnight Lute - Bellastrega by Deputy Minister) was 38-1. She is a nice looking, dark bay, but as with many Midnight Lutes, I didn't know whether 6.5 furlongs would be enough to show her talent. Fellow debuter My Looloo (Pure Prize - Silent Demand by Quiet American) caught my eye. Hero's Marine (Street Hero - My Lady Marine by Little Missouri) stumbled badly at the break, almost going to her nose. My Looloo was off slowly. Dawn's Charm (Hard Spun - Deb's Charm by Silver Charm) had no such troubles, as she outbroke the field and was several lengths ahead, before the other fillies knew the race had begun. The closest pursuers were Sweet Sense, Backintheacademy (Put It Back - Summer School by Royal Academy), and Rhinestone Diva (El Corredor - Country Diva by Songandaprayer). Hero's Marine and Mezzanotte were together in the next spots, and it was many lengths back to trailing My Looloo. Dawn's Charm continued running freely in front, lengthening her lead, with Sweet Sense in pursuit. There was no catching Dawn's Charm, however, who romped home 10 3/4 lengths in front. My Looloo and Mezzanotte turned in promising debuts, running well late to pick up second and third, but the star of the race was Dawn's Charm. Watch the Replay.

A Stormy Victory

There were no scratches, and the turf was firm. Stormy Rocit (Stormy Atlantic - Carocita by Anees) was favored, with Bajan Rhythm (Speightstown - Ready to Talk by More Than Ready) also well-respected by the bettors. May Day Cash (Midnight Lute - May Day Bluff by Pine Bluff) was 6-1. Colonel Red (Boastful - Tropical Runner by Blue Ensign) broke on top. Cathy's Irish Boy (R. Cooper - Cordon Negro by Hooched), Stormy Rocit, and Bajan Rhythm set after him. Bocono (Grand Slam - My Ro by Dixieland Band) was squeezed at the start, but recovered to join the chase. May Day Cash had a couple beat early. Stormy Rocit came through on the inside on the turn, and took the lead. Colonel Red stuck with him for a time, but Stormy Rocit shook him off. Bajan Rhythm took up the chase, but he couldn't catch Stormy Rocit, who came home 2 1/4 lengths in front. It was 2 3/4 lengths back to Cathy's Irish Boy in third, followed by Colonel Red, and Bocono. May Day Cash ran evenly, finishing seventh. Watch the Replay.

Gefest is the New Found King

Dusty Money (Johar - Miss Celebrity by Hennessy) was scratched. Majestic Lad (Majestic Warrior - Cat's Glow by Sir Cat) was favored, and Senioritis (Big Brown - She's a Lively One by Lively One) was 20-1. The start was good, with Indio Moro (Unbridled Energy - Peekabootoyou by Indian Charlie) dropping back from his rail spot. Senioritis was up with the leaders early, along with Gladhander (Congrats - K. D.'s Shady Lady by Maria's Mon) and New Found King (Newfoundland - Steal the Crown by Regal Classic). Gladhander went on to set the pace. Senioritis kept up for a time, but then began to drop back. Majestic Lad moved into the picture, along with Gefest (Shakespeare - Snow Kid by Lemon Drop Kid), and New Found King was re-energized on the inside. Gladhander continued to show the way, but he couldn't hold off his pursuers. Gefest went by on the outside, and New Found King passed on the rail. Gefest pulled away to win by 3 3/4 lengths, with New Found King safely in second. Takin the Sloroad (Van Nistelrooy - Bee's Wax by Quiet American) nipped Gladhander late for third. Senioritis faded to 8th after his early interest. Watch the Replay.
