Do You Smell Victory

Wild Winter (Wildcat Heir - Tchopitioulas by Woodman) and Thunder Quay (Circular Quay - Chispiski by Appealing Skier) were scratched, and the track was fast. Do You Smell Smoke (Smoke Glacken - Honora Helen by Bianconi) was favored, and Valerie'sgreenjet (The Green Monkey - Miss Vermont Jet by Vermont) was 19-1. Morethanahalo (Halo's Image - Morethanamiracle by Line In The Sand) came out of the gate awkwardly, and trailed. The others got off to a decent start. Mile High City (High Cotton - Fun City Lady by Jeblar) took a brief lead, but Do You Smell Smoke went by to set the pace. Mile High City assumed a pressing position, and Tizrobertcharles (Bwana Charlie - Tiz Gold by Prospect Bay) followed these in third. Valerie'sgreenjet moved up on the outside. Do You Smell Smoke continued to lead the parade. Mile High City got a little closer, but then Do You Smell Smoke kicked away again. A length separated the top pair throughout the stretch, and that was the margin at the wire. Tizroberthcharles took third, just holding off Morethanahalo, having recovered from his slow start. Valerie'sgreenjet ran fairly evenly, finishing 5th. Watch the Replay.
