Art Official (Unusual Heat - Kylie's Art by Storm Cat) was scratched, leaving 10 on the muddy track. Black Forest (Monarchos - Forest Secrets by Forest Wildcat) was favored, Midnight Terror (Midnight Lute - Hallow Wean by Clever Trick) was 8-1. Athabaskan Hero (Cherokee's Boy - Pretty Princess by Partner's Hero) broke on top, and shook free from Midnight Terror, Black Forest, and Torchrunner (Orientate - Dootsie by Dixieland Band) to go up by several lengths. He continued to increase his lead, while going pretty swiftly, :22.47, :46.24. His nearest pursuers were Torchrunner and E Quake (Bernstein - Jungle Queen by Unbridled). Athabaskan Hero still had a clear lead as they entered the stretch, but both Torchrunner and Green Canyon (Outflanker - Miss Dixie Dream by Dixie Brass) were closing with determination. They both got by Athabaskan Hero, with Torchrunner winning by a neck over Green Canyon. Athabaskan Hero had to settle for third after doing most of the work. Also gaining late was Pelican Cove (Medallist - Smoke Glack Attack by Smoke Glacken), who took fourth. Midnight Terror ended up fifth. Watch the Replay.
