Running Off the Page

The turf was firm, and Trev (Exclusive Quality - East Lake Classic by Orientate) was the only scratch. Surfspun (Hard Spun - Surf Light by Malibu Moon) was favored, but Off the Page (Catienus - Blue Holiday by Cure the Blues) and firster Silver Value (Value Plus - Daintree by Regal Affair) both took money. Valerie'sgreenjet (The Green Monkey - Miss Vermont Jet by Vermont), who was adding blinkers, was 46-1. Kingofalldiamonds (Giant's Causeway - Queenofalldiamonds by Kingmambo) was fractious in the gate, and broke awkwardly. Valerie'sgreenjet was also slow to start. Off the Page was away well, but Heart and Pride (Western Pride - Heart of a Fighter by Halo's Image) went by to lead. Also among the first group were City Walker (City Zip - China Sky by Skywalker) and Forastero (Free Thinking - Malinalco by Vindication). Heart and Pride and Off the Pace were battling as they went into the stretch, but Off the Page soon pulled away to win it by 3 1/4 lengths. Heart and Pride held second over a closing Silver Value, with Surfspun, who had to steady late, taking fourth. Valerie'sgreenjet was never really into it after his tardy start, finishing 7th.
