Big Win for Big Lute

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Royal Dehere (Dehere - Roma Royale by General Royal) was favored, but Big Lute (Midnight Lute - V V S Flawless by Deputy Minister) and his entrymate Common Ground (Pure Prize - Beloved by All by Rubiano) also took a lot of action. Order of Magnitude (Henrythenavigator - Jewel Princess by Key to the Mint) was 25-1. I thought he looked good on the track, but Big Lute was certainly an eye-catcher. First-timer Only in America (Tiznow - Well Dressed by Notebook) was a bit rambuctious in the post parade, and before the load. He broke inward. Boston Proper (Speightstown - Boston Girl by Boston Harbor) went to the lead, with Transylvania Flash (More Than Ready - Lasting Code by Lost Code) after him. Also up close were Royal Dehere and Big Lute. Big Lute eased to the lead, as they moved into the turn. Royal Dehere began to get closer. Also making up some ground was Only in America. Big Lute was running easily on the lead. Royal Dehere chased after him, but couldn't catch him, as Big Lute went on to win by an easy 4 3/4 lengths. Royal Dehere was safe in second, and Only in America took third. Order of Magnitude wasn't much of a threat, finishing 9th. It was definitely an impressive debut for Big Lute, but Only in America is also worth another look. Watch the Replay.

Leigh Court Knocks the Midnight Rider

The track was fast for the 8 runners. Midnight Rider (Midnight Lute - Ma Kitty by Meadowlake) and entrymate Anna Pavlova (Unbridled's Song - Our Rite of Spring by Stravinsky) were favored. Leigh Court (Grand Slam - Padmore by French Deputy) and Orland Flash (Flashy Bull - Black Olive by Secret Hello) also received some attention. Leigh Court hopped a bit at the start, and was at the back. Orland Flash showed first, hounded by Midnight Rider, with her entrymate Anna Pavlova in third. Orland Flash and Midnight Rider continued 1-2, with Anna Pavlova getting closer. Eating up ground on the outside was Leigh Court. Midnight Rider took the lead, but couldn't hold off Leigh Court, who bounded on by for a 3 1/4 length win. Midnight Rider was another 2 1/4 lengths in front of Connieconnieconnie (Arch - Wreath of Gold by Lucky North), who finished well for third, while Orland Flash tired to fourth. Anna Pavlova drifted out badly on the turn, and finished 6th. Watch the Replay.

Mom's Favorite Win

The track was fast, and all 6 ran. Kara's Match Point (Curlin - Home Court by Storm Cat) and her entrymate Ballerina Belle (First Defence - Major Allie by Officer) were favored. Kara's Match Point was bumped at the start, and was quickly lengths behind the field. Blue Ballerina (Bluegrass Cat - Do Not Disturb by Maria's Mon) and Yankeeindixieland (Dixie Union - Banyan Street by Gone West) battled early, with I'm Mom's Favorite (Indian Charlie - Charming Toutsie by Storm Cat), Ballerina Belle, and Golden Joop (Medaglia d'Oro - Joop by Zilzal) not far behind. Ballerina Belle found some room on the rail and took a short lead, as Yankeeindixieland retreated. I'm Mom's Favorite went with Ballerina Belle. Blue Ballerina was in between these, but then began to fade. Ballerina Belle and I'm Mom's Favorite battled to the wire, with I'm Mom's Favorite getting her nose in front at the finish. It was more than 8 lengths back to the others, who were led by Golden Joop and Blue Ballerina. Kara's Match Point never really recovered from her bump at the start, beating only the tired Yankeeindixieland. Watch the Replay.

Only in America showed his green-ness by not switching leads until three jumps from the finish line... A little more seasoning, and he will be a very good horse.  A lot to live up to with his pedigree, but he showed a lot of talent for not switching leads!

Tiz the Truth would have won the Robert B Lewis today.  Ran the last 1/8th in under 12 under a hand ride!  Love this horse going forward!
