Doherty Takes to the Air

Freeride (Master Command - A Real Lady by Real Quiet) was scratched, and the track was fast. Doherty (Giant's Causweay - Highclere Memory by Cryptoclearance) was favored, but Air Squadron (Curlin - Air France by French Deputy) took plenty of money as well. The start was good. There was a scramble for the early lead. Doherty, Town Hall (Indygo Shiner - Susan's Angel by Cape Town), Jagger M (Harlan's Holiday - Nithi by Wolf Power (SAF)), and Air Squadron were all fighting for it, with Air Squadron on the outside. Doherty tried to shake off his rivals, but the pack was sticking close. Air Squadron lost a little ground. Doherty spurted away in the stretch. Honduran (Macho Uno - Marimba Rhythm by Golden Missile) and Air Squadron took after him. They made up some ground late, but Doherty had too much of a headstart, and won it by 2 lengths. Honduran was second, with Air Squadron another 3/4 behind in third. Another decent effort for Air Squadron, but he seems to have trouble delivering the final push. Watch the Replay.

The Winning Direction

Pirate's Grip (Mr. Greeley - Renaissance Lady by A.P. Indy) was scratched, as well as AE entrants Harrythenavigator (Henrythenavigator - Confidentially by Saratoga Six), Gray Not Bay (Rubiyat - Paying Penance by Cat's Career), and Batten the Hatches (Stormy Atlantic - Masada by Pleasant Tap). The turf was firm. North Slope (Elusive Quality - Jinni by A.P. Indy) was the 5-2 favorite, with Drenched (Stormy Atlantic - Silent Beauty by Gone West) and Oistin's Town (Speightstown - Tweedside by Thunder Gulch) also getting play. Big Henry (Henrythenavigator - Jealous Wildcat by Forest Wildcat) was 60-1. Oistin's Town broke running and went to the lead. North Slope, Posse Attack (Posse - Sister Sporty by Evening Kris), and Drenched set after him. Big Henry trailed. Oistin's Town continued on top, pressed by North Slope. Posse Attack and Drenched chased the leaders as a pair. The pace was fairly slow, :24.77, :49.94, 1:14.12. Oisten's Town continued to lead as they went into the stretch, but North Slope moved even and then slowly drew clear for a 1 1/2 length win. Oistin's Town was a clear second over Drenched, with Hardest Core (Hard Spun - Lillybuster by Housebuster) back in fourth. Big Henry showed little, and finished 12th (last). There was very little change of position in this race, and experienced horses accounted for the first four placings. Watch the Replay.

The Laugh of Victory

The turf was firm. Don't Tell Lou (Guillaume (IRE) - Evrobi by Tabasco Cat), Brainy (Lemon Drop Kid - True Legacy (GB) by A.P. Indy), Victorious Won (More Than Ready - Win Approval by With Approval), and Keypartner (Partner's Hero - Hill Keys by Ten Keys) were out, leaving 8 to run. Lori's Store (El Prado (IRE) - Big Promise by Rahy) was favored by a few ticks over Hearty Laugh (Distorted Humor - Justenuffheart by Broad Brush). Raise Up (Henrythenavigator - Ticker Tape (GB) by Royal Applause (GB)) was 14-1. The start was fair, although Honey Lake (Dynaformer - Kelly Pond by Deputy Minister) was off a little slowly, and then tried to get out. Kizuna (Harlington - Espanola Way by Cozzene) went to the lead, pestered by Lori's Store (El Prado (IRE) - Big Promise by Rahy). Honey Lake rushed up to get involved. Kizuna was running free on the lead, chased by Lori's Store and Honey Lake. Our Love Tap (Tapit - Trickski by Peteski) started making up ground, along with Curly Sue (Tiznow - Grand Gala by Dixieland Band). Our Love Tap made the first move, but she couldn't get by Kizuna. Hearty Laugh was rolling from the back, and Lori's Store was still with a chance. At the wire, it was Hearty Laugh by a neck over Lori's Store, who was a neck in front of Our Love Tap, and it was another neck back to pacesetter Kizuna. Raise Up was not involved much, finishing 7th. Watch the Replay.
