A Montana Native Winner

There were no scratches on the fast track. The entry of Montana Native (Yes It's True - Special American by Quiet American) and Proud Vixen (Proud Citizen - In Return by Horse Chestnut (SAF)) was favored by just a few ticks over Fanfare (Curlin - Magical Ride by Storm Cat). Fanfare stumbled badly at the start, going to her nose, but was still sent after early leader Fascinante (Medaglia d'Oro - Scarlett Cruise by Pulpit). These two set the pace, chased by Malibu Lila (Malibu Moon - Probable Storm by Tabasco Cat), Montana Native, and Rockatilla (Rock Hard Ten - Pulsatilla by Gone West). Fanfare took a short lead, with Fascinante sticking near, and Montana Native getting closer. Fascinante began to retreat, as Montana Native and Malibu Lia swarmed on Fanfare. Montana Native had her head in front as they entered the turn, and then she pulled away. She cruised down the stretch, crossing the line 8 1/2 lengths in front of Malibu Lia. Taylor Street (Street Sense - Lenawee by Albert the Great) and Proud Vixen got by Fanfare as well, to take third and fourth. Fanfare finished 5th, definitely compromised by her stumble.
