Stakes Results

Where's Dominic (colt; Midnight Lute - Woodflower by Woodman) had a brief lead in the stretch of the Miracle Wood Stakes at Laurel Park, but couldn't hold off Dynamic Strike (Smart Strike - Dynamic Deputy by Deputy Minister), who won by a length. Where's Dominic, who was 4 1/4 lengths in front of the others, is now stakes-placed, with a record of 2 wins, 1 second and 1 third in 4 starts, and earnings of $63,860. Be warned that Alpha Mike Foxtrot (Two Punch - Shashobegon by Broad Brush) broke down in the stretch of the race, and this is clearly visible in the replay. Watch the Replay.

I Am Miss Brown (filly; Big Brown - Formal Miss by Formal Dinner) finished 6th in the Martha Washington Stakes at Oaklawn. Sister Ginger (Student Council - Letters in Silver by Silver Hawk) fought off favorite Rose to Gold (Friends Lake - Saucy by Tabasco Cat), and pulled away for a 2 3/4 length win. Watch the Replay.

The Power of the Saint

All nine ran on the fast track. The public had a little trouble deciding on the favorite, with Saint Vigeur (Smart Strike - Sweet Way by Giant's Causeway) the lukewarm 3-1 choice at post time. Dyker Beach (Curlin - Favorite Feather by Capote) was 5-1, and Wabbajack (Midnight Lute - Fast and Early by Carson City) was 6-1. I was liking Freedom Child (Malibu Moon - Bandstand by Deputy Minister) in the paddock. Dyker Beach was on his toes as they headed to the track, and Wabbajack was looking good. O T B Bob (Full Mandate - Smoke Granted by Smoke Glacken) looked ready for action on the track. Dyker Beach came out of the gate slowly. Also near the back was Carson City Brew (Milwaukee Brew - Plumlake Lady by Carson City). To the front went Saint Vigeur, who took advantage of his rail spot. Tapulous (Tapit - Indian Halo by Halo) was pressing the leader. Freedom Child began to gain on the outside, and Wabbajack was saving ground on the rail. Saint Vigeur continued to show the way. Freedom Child made a bid on the turn, and moved even with the leader. Wabbajack was swung to the outside to begin his rally. Saint Vigeur continued to hold them off, and crossed the line 1 1/4 length in front. Wabbajack overtook Freedom Child for the place spot, as that rival had to settle for third. Dyker Beach didn't have much punch after his slow beginning, passing a few to finish 6th. Watch the Replay.

Lightning Strikes

The turf was firm. The Man Himself (Distorted Humor - Words of War by Lord At War (ARG)) was scratched, as well as AEs Middleburg (Lemon Drop Kid - Rum Charger (IRE) by Spectrum (IRE)), Sweet Mike (Sweet Return (GB) - Thunderous Waves by Stormy Atlantic), and Balthazar (Red Giant - Dina Gold by Seeking the Gold). AE entrant Wildcard (Smart Strike - Martinique by Pleasant Colony) drew into the race. Kid Lightning (Lemon Drop Kid - Heat Lightning by Summer Squall) was the tepid 7-2 choice. Harrythenavigator (Henrythenavigator - Confidentially by Saratoga Six) was 4-1. Bellarmine (Magna Graduate - Aly Capri by Alydar) was reluctant to load. The start was good. There was a scramble for the early lead. Gray Not Bay (Rubiyat - Paying Penance by Cat's Career) emerged from the pack to take it. Piceance (Speightstown - Inny River by Seattle Slew) was up with him. These two put a little distance on the field. Suddenly, Kid Lightning found some room on the rail, and rushed up towards the front. He was stopped in traffic, however, and was forced to stay behind Gray Not Bay and Piceance. But, he found some room in the stretch, and hit the front. Bellarmine ran on as well, but came up 1/2 length short, in second. Leader Avenue (Street Cry (IRE) - Dyna Da Wyna by Doc's Leader) and Moro Tap (Tapit - Ghost Dancing by Silver Ghost) also finished well for 3rd and 4th. Pacesetters Piceance and Gray Not Bay had to sette for 5th and 6th. Harrythenavigator was menacing on the outside, but stalled and finished 7th. Watch the Replay.
