The Sky Opens a Winner

Araksia (Langfuhr - Stormy Sea by Storm Cat) and Mi Perlita (Grand Slam - Bring the Noise by Dixieland Band) were scratched, leaving a field of 9 fillies, including the entry of Tomei (Thewayyouare - Teriffany by Fusaichi Pegasus) and Hearsay Social (He's Crafty - Billie Bob by Bring the Heat). It was this entry, trained by Wesley Ward, that was made the favorite. Sky America (Sky Mesa - Chalmette by Quiet America) was the next choice at 4-1, and she looked good on the track. Platinum Justice (Killenaule - Little Sea by One Little Hustler) hopped at the start and trailed, and Cherokee River (Chelokee - Golden River by Native Prospector) also came out awkwardly. Hearsay Social took the early lead, but she had plenty of company. Tomei, Dream S'more (Mineshaft - S'more Smoke by Smoke Glacken), Tak'er Up (Mutakddim - Halo Tyra by Sunny's Halo), and Zee Stone (First Defence - Long Lake by Distorted Humor) were all among the early battlers. Dream S'more came through on the inside to take the lead. Hearsay Social was still there for a time, but then began to retreat. Zee Stone made a move on the outside to join Dream S'more. Coming on late was Sky America, who went by both Zee Stone and Dream S'more for a 3-length win. Zee Stone captured second over Dream S'more, and Tak'er Up was along for fourth. Watch the Replay.

The Fog is Rising

All six ran on the Tapeta. Frisco Fog (Idiot Proof - Point Break by Summing) was the even money favorite. Also taking a lot of play was La Tonga (Brave Cat - Ducks On the Pond by Fit to Fight). The start was good. Frisco Fog rocketed out of the gate to an early lead. She was followed by Yes and La Tonga, who was lugging in. Frisco Fog ran straight and true and was never threatened, crossing the wire 2 1/4 lengths in front. Yes and La Tonga held their positions in second and fourth, followed by Summer Paranoia (Siberian Summer - Real Paranoide by Paranoide (ARG)), Wild Guneva's Star (Olympio - Wild Guneva by Once Wild), and Red Boots (Red - Holiday Boots by Harlan's Holiday). Interesting that the offspring by first-year sires finished 1-2-3. Frisco Fog is the second winner for Idiot Proof. Watch the Replay.

The New Regime

Five-year-old Northern Flight (Deputy Commander - Seattle Lil by Seattle Dancer) was scratched. The track was fast for the remaining 9. Four-year-old Regime (Empire Maker - Capeside Lady by Cape Town) was the heavy favorite. Tiz Midnight (Midnight Lute - Tough Tiz's Sis by Tiznow) was 2-1, and Fashion Secret (Curlin - Sweet Lips by Kris S.) was 17-1. Tiz Midnight was slow to start, and Tribal Syn (Tribal Rule - Synnin and Grinnin by Beau Genius) was not off to the best start either. Favorite Regime broke on top, but she was soon passed by several including Swimmin Insunshine (Successful Appeal - Gingham and Lace by Kris S.) and Tayrona (A. P. Warrior - Polly Alexander (IRE) by Foxhound). It was Tayrona who went on to set the pace. She was chased by a pack that included Swimmin Insunshine, Serene Melody (Street Cry (IRE) - Serena's Song by Rahy), Regime, Tribal Syn, and Keldy (Benchmark - Windscreen by Pine Bluff). Fashion Secret and Tiz Midnight were together at the back. Serene Melody and Regime moved as a team to join Tayrona on the lead. It was Regime on the outside going best, and she rolled on by. She went on to post an easy 5 1/2-length win. Both Fashion Secret and Tiz Midnight saved their best running for the end, grabbing second and third respectfully. Here's to Rose (Magna Graduate - Rose Hips by Meadowlake) made up some spots to take fourth. Watch the Replay.

It was fun to watch the Golden Gate race but if the winner never wins again and breeds on, it'll be interesting to see the comments on some of the other blogs about whether her offspring can stay the Derby distance!

Only other question: does this mean she would be a good cross for the Quarter Horse Racing set?

(fun to watch, tho)

Mz - It was funny when I was working on the recap of the race. It was pretty much, Frisco Fog was first out of the gate, end of story. I was impressed that she ran nice and straight, and also that Idiot Proof has 2 runners and 2 winners.
