Finding the Right Rhythm

Basuna (Stephen Got Even - Tender Storm by Honour and Glory) was scratched, leaving 11 on the Polytrack. Biorhythm (Malibu Moon - Mystic Rhythms by Citidancer) was the lukewarm favorite at just under 3-1. Ol Donyo (Curlin - Royal Tigress by Storm Cat) was 5-1. She made a favorable impression in the prelims. Laiken Rae (Even the Score - Huzzah by Service Stripe) hopped at the start. There was a scramble for the early lead. Distortion (Distorted Humor - Misty Rosette by Stormin Fever) was the first to show, but she was passed by a couple including Biorhythm and Flak (Malibu Moon - Stormy Squall by Summer Squall). And then Ol Donyo came up on the outside to join those two. The turn was not kind to Ol Donyo, who went very wide and lost position. Biorhym continued to lead them, chased by Distortion. Biorhym could not be caught, crossing the line 1 3/4 lengths in front. Distortion held second over Sky Girl (Sky Mesa - Vargas Girl by Deputy Minister), who closed nicely for third, with Vice Dancer (Lion Heart - Regina's Vice by Deputy Minister) taking fourth. Ol Donyo finished 8th after her wide trip. Watch the Replay.

Ondine Delivers

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Ondine (Medaglia d'Oro - Arrow in Flight by Forest Wildcat) was the heavy favorite, Illicit Affair (Midnight Lute - Silverbulletday by Silver Deputy) was 5-1. I was liking Iconic Spirit (Bernstein - Super Freaky by Smart Strike) on the track. She stumbled badly at the start, and trailed the field. Illicit Affair went to the lead, but J K's Mischief (Into Mischief - Texas Punch by Two Punch) set after her, and was soon in front. Illicit Affair chased after her, followed by Hollywood Icon (Nobiz Like Shobiz - Private World by Thunder Gulch), Unbridled Wee (Holy Bull - Dixiechickadee by Grindstone), Ondine, and continuing at the back, Iconic Spirit. Illicit Affair went back to the lead on the turn, but Ondine was starting to move. She rolled to the front, leaving Illicit Affair behind. Unbridled Wee and Iconic Spirit chashed Ondine home. They put a dent in the margin, but Ondine was safely home by 2 1/4 lengths. Iconic Spirit outfinished Unbridled Wee for second, and they were followed by Illicit Affair, J K's Mischief, and Hollywood Icon. Ondine will grab the headlines, but it was a brave run for Iconic Spirit after her stumble. Watch the Replay.
