News and Notes

With the Kentucky Derby approaching, blog postings will be erratic for the next couple of weeks. Since we are also seeing an increase in the number of two-year-old races (there are five scheduled in North America for April 25), I think it's a good time to cease previews for three-year-old races. I will continue to post three-year-old entries and results under "other" at least for a time. I will also try to post some photos in the coming week of the Maiden Watch horses that are prepping for the Kentucky Derby and Oaks. Time premitting, I will also preview selected two-year-old races, until our two-year-olds start running.

Sunday is No Dud

The track was fast, and all seven ran. Check Ride (Early Flyer - Delta Band by Dixieland Band) was the heavy favorite. Sunday Duds (Supreme Cat - Sunday Bridle by Commanchero) also took some play. Lazer Code (Destin Calls - Prima Bella by Lost Code), Sunday Duds, Check Ride, and Deeliteful News (Space Shot - Autum's Delight by Afternoon Delights) went for the lead. Sunday Duds held it for a bit, but he was soon joined by Lazer Code and Check Ride. Sunday Duds shook free from the other two as they entered the stretch. Free and Valid (Valid Expectations - Catarina Ranch by Dove Hunt) closed with an impressive rally to pick up second, but he couldn't catch Sunday Duds, who took it by a length. Behind Free and Valid came Check Ride and Lazer Code, followed by Deeliteful News, Lad's Lil Prince (Lil's Lad - Princessecretariat by Country Side), and Unbridled Avenger (My Golden Song - Bonita Belle by Magic Cat). There was a stewards' inquiry into the stretch run, but no changes were made. Watch the Replay.
