Roaring to Victory

Big Blue Talent (Talent Search - Suncoast Parkway by Quiet American), part of an entry, was scratched. The remaining half of the entry, Talented Cat (Talent Search - Kazen by Tale of the Cat), was made the favorite. Also receiving plenty of attention from the bettors was Gun Roar (Bernstein - Roaring Twenties by Dixieland Band). The track was sloppy, and it was raining steadily. Daddy's Kid (Scat Daddy - Snow Kid by Lemon Drop Kid) did not seem at all pleased with the weather conditions. I was liking Colonel Harlan (Visionaire - Jacaranda Jane (SAF) by Joshua Dancer) a bit. Lucky Luminaire (Visionaire - Fortunate Chance by American Chance) was very slow out of the gate. Also away slowly were Daddy's Kid, and Alsono (Limehouse - Miss Blue Grass by St. Jovite), although the latter horse was rushed into contention. Colonel Harlan led them early. Sahara Hero (Cat Dreams - Numerieus (FR) by Numerous), Gun Roar, and Alsono set after him. Gun Roar dropped back a bit and let the other three battle. There was lots of bumping amongst the top three in the stretch. Colonel Harlan held the lead, but couldn't maintain a straight path. Gun Roar slipped by him on the inside, and Alsoso went by on the outside. The win went to Gun Roar by a neck, with Alsono a head better than Colonel Harlan. It was more than three lengths back to Sahara Hero in fourth. He was followed by Talented Cat, who was never really involved, and Daddy's Kid and Lucky Luminaire, who never recovered from their tardy starts. Watch the Replay.
