Collecting the Purse

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Maura's Purse (Hal's Image - Makememoneyhoney by Double Honor) was favored. She was a little rambunctious in the paddock. Debuting Fazed (In Summation - Phaedra by Pentelicus), the second starter for In Summation, took some play. She looked lively in the post parade. I thought first-timer Classic Trip (With Distinction - Appella's Trip by Trippi) looked kind of nice. She was a bit reluctant to load, but broke well and went to the lead. Also up front early were La Hija de Olga (Hear No Evil - Olgamar by Wild Again) and Amor Incondicional (With Distinction - Self Seeker by Skywalker). Maura's Purse was off a step slow, but she soon joined the leaders and went on by them. La Hija de Olga continued in pursuit of Maura's Purse, but Maura's Purse began to pull away. She went on to post a 6-length win. There was some greenness displayed behind her, as Classic Trip held off a closing Sweet Anne Gold (Gottcha Gold - Sweet Davia by Hennessy) for second. They were followed by La Hija de Olga, Fazed, Amor Incondicional, and Vernice (Best of the Rest - Snake Driver by Cloud Hopping), who trailed throughout. Watch the Replay.

The Gamble Pays Off

All six ran on the fast track. Yankee Gambler (Yankee Gentleman - Sarah Dances by Arazi) took the early money, but Ring Necked (Too Much Bling - Wood Duck by Kingmambo) was the slight favorite at post time. He made a favorable impression in the paddock. In the Backseat (Menhal - Rare and Sixy by Rare Brick) looked good on the track. He took some action from the bettors, at one point down to 5-1, before going off at 13-1. Yankee Gambler balked at the load initially, but then went in. Stormin Encore (Storm and a Half - Winloc's Sunshine by Distinctive Pro) broke best and took the early lead. Ring Necked, Yankee Gentleman, In the Backseat, and Ima Happy Strike (Smart Strike - More Happy by Vindication) chased after him. As they moved into the turn, Yankee Gambler drew even with the pacesetter. Stormin Encore offered little resistance, as Yankee Gambler rolled on by for a 6 1/4 length win. In the Backseat got by Stormin Encore for second, with Ima Happy Strike and Ring Necked taking fourth and fifth. Mac Witt (Penitent Man - Soda Queen by Vicar) raced greenly at the back throughout. Watch the Replay.

Nice maiden win for Miss Brown Brookski at Woodbine - 20 to 1. Wish I had put a bet in on her.

Having watched Normandy Invasion looking back at his earlier races.  I have to say I think he could win the Preakness that 1/8 is all he needs. He is not afraid to "just show up" out of nowhere.. I respect Chad Browne and Mr Porter,s decision to put a little weight on him though.  I agree on that so let,s wait for the Travers. But I'll always believe he could have had The Preakness.
